You may find this older thread helpful:

I still say:

$500. No; maybe $1000.

[EDIT: Sorry, I misread the topic and thought it said "At what price would someone have to pay you to be seen using the Beats Pros at an event."]

Maybe if I would get paid to wear one, it would be an option:teef:

Got one as a gift, thought it was a bit over-priced .

Not many people on this board give Beats much thought. I wouldn't own them even for $5. I don't like them and I'd rather have a quality set of headphones that I paid a good chunk of money for than Beats even if they are cheap.

about $100, -/+$20. If you take the douchey DJ attitude away, they are probably some of the better run of the mill consumer cans for normal folks. They color the music nicely, and do a good job of what regular people would want. For a few bucks more, you can start to actually get better headphones. If you don't listen to the drones who over hype them and believe they are the next coming of jesus, and ALSO ignore the shit head know it all DJ's who are audiophiles that probably think behringer makes an ok product..... you get the truth that these are ok headphones that are just extremely overpriced.

The best Beats that cost 399.99 are realistically worth 100$ but sale price should be 150$. they are marked up because of the power of the brand name and media and pop culture have taken them on as the best.

I suppose it is like any fashion item - a mulberry handbag may set you back £700 and not be much higher quality than a £50 bag but you are paying for the name and the design. The SQ of the beats may not match other headphones of the same price but you are paying a lot for the looks. I would say that you could probably get a similar spec pair of headphones in a different brand for less than £100 but they wont have the same street cred

I agree with Jkunk ^^ to a degree, you're effectively buying a fashion item. They're not the worst headphones in the world, but they have way too much bass in them. I've heard the top of the range ones in a shop, and they didn't sound bad but i have some headphones costing under £50 which sound wise were easily better than the £160 beats. If they were unbranded they would probably cost below £50.. which is still a lot considering how little they cost to make

I'd do what you did.. sell them and get something else.
They're poor for DJing (I'll take my Sennheisers any day of the week).. and yea they are probably ok for ****** listening, like on the train.. but if I could sell em and get something else, then why would I want to be seen with those on my head and look like a guy who'd spend 2-3 times too much on a pair of ok headphones?

I'd rather be seen with a pair of $100 headphones on my head that sound like $100 headphones, than be seen with $200-300 headphones that sound like maybe $50-75, even if I paid nothing for them. Hell, I'd rather been seen with $50-75 headphones that sound like $50-75 :)

If you were thinking of dropping the cash for Beats by Dre you can alternatively get better quality headphones for same price if not cheaper. Look at Pioneer, Sennheiser, AIAIAI...

You'd have to pay me, and not sure why you would need power hungry, sound cancelling headphones for DJing that might run out of batteries when you least need it.

Have you tried the AIAIAI's? I was in a store and they had them.. on a listening wall with a bunch of other brands of headphones. I was really curious to try them since they're similar in design to the Sennheiser HD25 and said to be comparable in sound quality. Well, I tried them and compared to the HD25SP which was on the wall and to my HD25 which I had with me.. and to Grado, Pioneer and some others they had.. and was surprised to find that they sounded noticeably worse than either of the Sennheisers.. I mean, really obvious. They weren't distorted, nor was there any indication of a problem with them.. and they didn't look bad at all. Just meh sound quality. Granted I love the HD25's and any competition would have to be pretty damn great to get me to switch, so yea, we all have our favorites.. but really I tried to be fair and gave em a really good listen, and they didn't stand up. Considering the positive reviews of these and the obvious care that went into their design and build, I was really surprised.

Anyway, wondering if anyone else has done some comparisons on these??

Compared to other similar priced / speced headphones .

:blank:

Depends on the application, due to all their sound enhancement technology they are really poor for monitoring a mix, but for listening and for getting a very loud clear sound, they are probably worth the money.

Manu brought up a good point, the need for batteries and all the sound cancelling might not be necessary for DJing, with DJing, you always have to think about protecting your ears, I would get whatever headphones have the thickest exterior for blocking out external sounds (particularly highs).

They are like wading through a swamp of bass. Try them next to a pair of phones with a flat response and you'll hear what I mean.

Compared to what's available, I'd say they're in the $30 price range. My $100 Sennheiser's blow them away.

My $100 Sennheiser's blow them away.If you're referring to the $100 HD 280 PRO versus the $400 Dr. Dre Pro, I'd have to disagree.
The Dr. Dre Pro sounds better. Not anywhere near $300 better, but still better.

if you a teenager on welfare that wants to impres those little hookers at school they have no price. if you do your research they will be worth about as much as a good paper weight.
