Hey guys,
My Technics 1200 has been broken ever since I got it in a trade.
Although it's still usable it skips way to often on my records than it should(the same record will not skip with my other tech12 and same needle)
The weights are the same and anti-skip is off, tried switching needle on my other one(both are shure m44-7)
As you can see in the picture it doesn't even sit properly when resting, that's literally where it sits :teef:.

I've tried to test to see if the tonearm will swing any farther towards the center but it seems like it stays put there.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is some sort of screw loose? Can I fix this? Is this a good excuse to get a matching black one?
Most importantly I don't want to damage my vinyl records any more than I have to so please tell me if I should keep them off this table.
Thanks for any insight you can provide me.

It should be seated in the bearing with a screw in it on the other side. Hard to tell from this angle but it looks like the screw on the platter side of the tone arm is missing.

Are you good with a soldering iron? If you are and have steady hands an patience, you can order a new tonearm on ebay. If its your first time taking a tech apart it will probably take you 2 hours, but its actually a pretty simple fix. If not, try taking the tonearm out and seeing if you can fix it like that.

If you pick up the tonearm and move the headshell towards the center of the platter, does it stop as if it hit something? Or does it get progressively tighter as you move it to the center?

I'm guessing it's a damaged bearing somewhere on the wand assembly. Just buy a new one from Panasonic's parts department (http://www.pstc.panasonic.com/EpartR/PartsListChoice.asp), the part number for a standard silver MK2 wand is SFPAM18201K
If you're competent with hand tools and soldering, you can replace the tonearm yourself. If not, find someone who is qualified to do it for you.

Thanks for any insight you can provide me. what happens when you try to push it to rest like it suppose to. is there any weird noise or is it really tight.

If you know your sources, then you can get the parts.

Hey guys, thanks for all your help, I'll probably end up bringing it into a music shop and hopefully not pay an arm and a leg.

When I do that it simply moves back to where it is in the picture. I can get it to stop if I max the counter weight but obviously don't want to have to use that on my records all the time.
