I was going to get the computer room redone as a Christmas gift but I moved all of my stuff up to my room+the modem so that's not necessary anymore and since my birthday is next month my parents might buy me some new gear! One piece of gear I badly need is a four channel mixer but the question is which one. I've looked at the Ecler Nuo 4.0 and it looks absolutely fantastic but the DJM-800 is great as well and the DN-X1100 is essentially a lower priced DJM-800. I can pretty much get any of these three mixers so price is almost no issue but I do want to keep it reasonable as I'm looking to get a CDJ 1000 MK3 and some Sennheiser HD25-IIs. I have lots of experience with the DJM-800 and really like it but I've heard the Ecler Nuo 4.0 sounds much better, although then I wouldn't have quite as many effects to work with (but the DJM-800 effects are kinda bad anyways). So, what is the "best" (read: your personal opinion) option out of these three?

I think you'd be meaning the Denon dnx1600 or 1700 as an alternative to the DJM800? The Dnx1100 is a stripped back version without the onboard effects (with a dedicated send/return) and about a 3rd of the price of the DJM800. Still a great mixer though.

I recently got the Dnx1600 and it's bloody fantastic- the best faders I have experienced on any mixer (they are incredible), astounding sound quality, and built like a brick, or at least a metallic brick. Plus it has Denons input matrix which I flippin' love. It also has all the midi stuff that I've yet to use, but everyone speaks highly of it- along with being Traktor certified. The effects are good, it has a big colour screen, but most importantly as a mixer it feels fantastic to use. It's a good £300-£400 cheaper than the DJM800 too. The Denon 1700 is a bit closer in price, and has even more features than the 1600.

On the flip side, the DJM800 obviously has the seperate channel filters etc, so if this is something you'd use a lot it could be a factor. I found the Dnx 1600 better than the DJM700, but would be a tough choice between it and the DJM800.

Sadly I have no experience with the Ecler, but again people seem to speak highly of them. I would say out of the DJM800, Ecler Nuo 4.0, and the dnx1600/1700 the Pioneer would be marginally inferior to the other two in terms of sound quality- but whether you will notice the difference is another matter. Personally I have been blown away by the quality & feel of the Denon's Dnx range, but all of the mixers you mentioned are highly regarded and I think it will come down to personal preference and 'feel'.

You're right about the Ecler, it does sound really good. But among your choices, the DJM-800 is the best bet.

I've not had any experience with it, and it's worth remembering that it came out way back in 2004 so will likely only be available second hand. Skratchworx has a detailed review of it though if you give it a google. It seems to have had a couple of issues but was generally well regarded for sound quality etc.

But then the game has moved on a fair bit in the last 8 years, and for how good value the x1600 is (especially compared to the Pioneer) I can't see any reason why you wouldn't go for the newer model if the Denon range was under consideration. :)

Hope that your happy with the X1500 and it serves you well. I love my DNX1600.

As for CDJ's, depending on price have you considered new options?

CDJ 900 / DNS 3900 etc

Looking on eBay I found a pair of 1000 MK2s for $800, one 1000 MK3 for $800 and an 800 MK2 for $400, dunno which to go with, probably the MK2s so I can have four decks.
