How's it going everybody?

Scratch Camp is a training session in which we each record a sample of ourselves scratching, then post another sample 30 days later. The purpose is to show an improvement between the before and after. It'll go from June 1- June 30.

We each choose a particular scratch we want to improve on, then focus on it for the month. The before and after should be the same scratch sample, same instrumental, same tempo, etc.

Sometimes, focusing/training can be difficult. But for 30 days, along with others, it can be a bit more fun.

Anyone interested?

Also, DJ Camp (http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?8253-DJ-Camp&p=93479#post93479) will be going on as well. It's similar except its focus is on learning a particular set/sets better.

Well, here's my pre-scratch camp (http://soundcloud.com/squizzle-mizzle-djf/squirrel-pre-scratch-camp-june) sample.

I'm working on a combo pattern. It's a pattern I got from a friend. It's a forward crab, then a two-click transform back.

The instrumental is "hip hop fury" at -6...

Wow I am a bit rusty really. Hadn't really worked out scratches on my S2, but here is sample. It seems I need to be a tad more quicker on some of my release points.

Instrumental is a mashup I did of Jurrasic 5's "Great Expectations" and Beastie Boys "She's Crafty".

first, cool mash up. Second, good scratching! I see what you're doing. I think it might be easier for you if you slow down and start with a simple scratch, then build from there. Start with just the baby scratch and simple cuts. You could have an instrumental record on both sides, and just go back and forth. Practice dropping the next record and scratching it in. Just a suggestion...

I am not sure if it's just me being so rusty, or the fact of switching from vinyl to controllers. Not having the tactile feel of the LP on my fingertips is an odd, absent feeling. I do love the S2's tho.

Yeah, man, scratching on a controller will provide a VERY different feeling. You just have so much less room to play. Keep at it.

I feel more comfortable with this scratch after 30 days, but I feel as if this sample sounds worse than when I started. WTF? I just adjusted the curve on my fader, because I felt it was too sharp. Maybe I should have waited...Well, I'll get used to the adjustment and keep improving...

Id say it sounds like you have it down better in the second one, the timing is much better in the first though

Just got a turntable, time to get back into scratching. I haven't done any turntablism in years (I have only played out on CD decks this past year), so I'm kinda re-learning it all.

Babies, tears, drags, forward and backward cuts. No transforms.
