Hey, all. I've recently obtained a Vestax PMC280, and I'm really loving it. The sound quality, effects, etc are all a blast. There is, however, just one problem.

Even when I have the gain on the lowest setting, nearly everything I play, be it on vinyl or CDJ, registers in the +3 range. I will literally hook a CDJ up, turn the gain knob to min, play a track, and when the track drops, the channel will go into the +3 range. http://i50.tinypic.com/2ain7mw.png

Does anyone know what exactly the deal with this is? Should I be using different power cords, or something? Is it normal? Thanks.

May seem obvious, but ... the effects kit is completely disabled, right? Have you attempted to isolate the issue by hooking up the same source to different channels? Does this happen on all channels? Have you triple checked that your signal is properly handled? That is -- phono to phono, line to line, etc ....

I suppose it should be said that all of the Vestax mixers I've used seem to register amplitude unusually high, compared to other mixers.

I think the main question is: how does it sound? Is it all distorted and poopy?

[edit]

And you mention the power cord ... are you using a non-factory power supply? If so -- two main things you need to make absolutely certain of:

- the plug fits into the mixer (seems like that's confirmed hehe)
- wattage (generally measured by volts * amps) -- both the power supply and the mixer unit should have requirements/abilities tagged. If they don't, I'd suggest not using it -- it could potentially cause electrical damage to your mixer.

Tell me your CD channels aren't set to phono or the kitteh gets it.
