Normally when looking at JBL speakers alike were talking 2000-3000, why are these only $1000 and $500 used.

Is it the 500watt max?

Because these are JBL's bottom of the line speaker. I wouldn't even buy them for that price.

Because no one wants them, and neither do you.

The JRX series are JBL's sh*ttest ever pa speaker series, they're harsh on your ears (not loud, just harsh and horrible) their sound quality is muddy (meaning awful midrange clarity) and boomy subs that go about as low as a bookshelf speaker, about 50-60hz at their lowest really. Steer cleer of them absolute bag of shite speakers. Step up to the MRX series and you'll notice a frankly amazing quality difference.

These are on par with the low end Peavey, Yamaha, Behringer, etc speakers.

Pretty awful sounding. They're passable for college parties if you have some big subs to handle the low end.

Most of that is true. Let's not forget the previous generations of these.:uhoh:

The JRX series is just another in a long line of crappy JBL entry level boxes, that includes the TRS series, SF series, MP2xx series and going further back to the MR7xx series, MR8xx series, and MR9xx series.

They were all crappy.

Oh yeah the JRX series isn't JBL's only sh*t speaker series, but these days come on, it's 2012, JBL really should make the MRX series quality their lowest possible quality series, the JRX is just complete and utter junk and more and more people everyday are finding that out, you can plainly see that judging by the sheer amount of JRX series cabs for sale used these days.

I guess I'll be the only one to somewhat stick up for these speakers.

I ran them for the first 5 years of my gigs with the JRX subs below, and didn't have a big problem with getting a decent sound for reproduction recorded music. Even ran some larger music festivals using a set of JRX's and a set of Peavey TLS-4X's that were my second gig towers.

Was it ideal? Nope. Is there much better for just a little more? Yep. Would I buy them now? Nope. Would I use them now if my primary PRX 615m's took a dump on me? Yep. You gotta run the hell out of the EQ, but they can sound respectable and work enough for someone just starting out or doing only a few smaller gigs a year, or as something in a pinch when you need a PA and there isn't much else available.

what about the PRX's? ... i have very little experience in PA Speakers, so just looking for some experienced advice.

i found these for what seems like a good deal based on reviews, and only 65 pounds!

The only PRX models that are any good are the 615, 612 and 618S-XLf. The 625 and 635 both have multiple overheating issues and the 625 has issues with a 1" driver keeping up with 2 15"s? I'd have a look at some of the EV or RCF stuff.

Yeah Bro

Gotta give you props on that call.

The MRX series is very good gear for the money.

My larger rig is not that much of a big deal, but 4 MRX512ms over 2 Yorkville LS608s covers the bigger shows that I do.
I rent 2 more LS608s for outdoor gigs from a buddy, maybe twice a year.

I still use my EV SX300s over my only JBL MP418 for the smaller gigs under 175 people and in the places with stairs. It is my older rig, and it is light.

I use the EV SX300s sometimes with 1 of the LS608s.

I don't know why anyone would want the JRX series, when they can save up more money and buy the MRX series, but i'm pretty sure from the sheer amount of JRX cabs about for sale used that 95% of buy them eventually the error of their purchase when they hear the MRX series.

The link to the PRX cabs has a price of $1200 per cab. For $2400 you can get yourself a pair of very nice tops and a sub. Considering the advantages of buying matched tops and sub from the same maker, I would look seriously at QSC K12's + KW181 sub over a pair of PRX625. Lot's of advantages. You can get a better price by calling dealers including the dealers in our vendor section. K-series speakers prices have gone up recently probably due to neodymium (sp?) magnet prices, but compared to RCF which is another great deal (ART312A tops), your 2nd sub will probably cost you less with QSC if and when you add one.
