I first heard of Mungo's HiFi from Scotch Bonnet/Scrub-A-Dub records and they had a bunch of really good records that I planned to buy, but I was soon turned off by the long delivery time from turntablelab.com. (about 3-4 weeks)

My first order had about 6-7 records which included this one

Turbulence - Notorious

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdKpBc6HPQE

After that order I put reggae on the back burner until it was easier to get my tunes. (I'm very impatient when it comes to records!)

Mr Rupee, it's great to talk to you & Hedbanger' about British/European JA reggae, too - not tryin' to diss anyone, but I've noticed some 'reggae heads' can't see past pure roots or American JA reggae...while roots is roots, no contest, there are worthy off-shoots!

@ dlove - There will always be 'purists' within every genre of music who will look down upon off shoots of that genre. Man, in the past I have been guilty myself (in regards to commercial Hip Hop) But the way I see it, a good track is a good track. Regardless of the genre or sub-genre it falls within.

Yes! The Specials are The Best. I went to their opening comeback tour gig in Newcastle (minus Jerry) and they were fantastic; I'd never been to a gig like that before, it was MENTAL. Talking of Jerry, have you heard his Spacial Orchestra stuff? The guy's a genius, no question.

dunno how long this'll be up for, Gilles Peterson talks to Jerry Dammers and they both play tunes important to them. It was last Saturday's show, and it's really interesting!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01hlbg1/Gilles_Peterson_Jerry_Dammers_Words_and_Music/

And yeh, there's different levels of purism  It's funny you mentioned the hip-hop thing, because the sampling aspect is strong in reggae too, it's just the riddims get checked in roots, and the new reggae sometimes comes from a 'cover all yer tracks!' hip-hop tip...

Yes! A beautiful thing about Horace Andy is his collaborations; he's brought reggae to a few generations, in a few genres.

Controversial

Like I posted in the first thread, anything goes. Feel free to post anything reggae related. (dub/dubstep, DNB, hiphop, funk ect...)

The only reason I started this thread in the "other EDM" section was because I didn't want to exclude anything.

The Mighty Talisman are back with a new album 'I-Surrection', out in September. Check the link for info, sound clips, and live dates around

'Talisman are one of the UK’s top British Roots Reggae bands from the late 70’s and early 80’s.
The band’s prowess back in the day earned them support slots with acts as diverse as Burning Spear, The Clash and The Rolling Stones.
They are back with two of the original line up, a new album, tour dates and a desire to rekindle their reggae magic from the late 70’s.'

Sad to hear Wayne 'Sleng Teng' Smith has died, at only 48 years old.

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Singer Wayne Smith, whose computerised song ‘Under mi Sleng Teng’ revolutionised reggae, has died.

Smith's son Tidel Smith, told OBSERVER ONLINE that his father died Monday at Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). He was 48 years old.

He said Smith was admitted to the KPH Friday after complaining of stomach pains. His health improved on Sunday but yesterday it had deteriorated and he died shortly after noon.

An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.

Originally from Waterhouse, Smith started his career in 1980 with producer Lloyd 'King Jammys' James who produced ‘Under mi Sleng Teng’ four years later.

‘Under mi Sleng Teng’ was orchestrated by Smith and musician Noel Davey on an inexpensive Casio keyboard. It was first played at dances on James' sound system and got such strong response that James released the song in late 1984.

The 'riddim' of the same name produced numerous hit songs including ‘Pumpkin Belly’ by singer Tenor Saw.

‘Under mi Sleng Teng’ was a trailblazer, triggering dancehall's digital age. It was Smith's biggest hit, though he enjoyed more chart success with songs like ‘Ain't no Meaning in Saying Goodbye’ and ‘Come Along’.

Smith, who operated the Sleng Teng label, is survived by his mother, May Coley, five children, three grandchildren, and five brothers and sisters.

Step inside - john brown's body

Too many people step inside step inside
Come one and all got to make the dancehall tight
Look at the daughter wear the dress so bright
Oh and it feels so right
So many people step inside step inside
Come one and all got to make the dancehall tight
Look at the shotta now they hail the dubwise
Oh and it feels so right

So come inside clear the house of the static
Make it electric and become automatic
We bring the motion to the waves and we crash it
Light up the chalice make it blaze hurry pass it
Nuff kings and queens here stepping in here tonight
One rice and peas and a stout extra size
Bright eyed gal next to me is the prize
So wine up your blessed thighs
Listen free your energy and pull up your hand
One little rudeboy could dash way a dance
The wicked never want to see innocent
People pushing forward again
One spark fire in the room it's no wonder
New boss sound that began with thunder
A lick of one Barrington Levy song make a gunman cool his sound

Chorus

Cry out louder so the DJ will know it
Replay the sound and keep the good times rolling
Everyone has just a minute to show so
Hold high and make sure that your lighter is glowing
We preaching from the pulpit
Don't reach or fall into the bottomless pit
Run come quick we rock JBB music
Listen to better love and choose it

Look at the people in the light with me sing
Save a life give them what they need
We can receive what the skies couldn't reach
That new riddim can carry me
Out in the streets the dance is reaching
And the dread bawl forward, hear it
Oh can we dance slowly? Girl come cool me down

So come inside hear the drums and the bassie play
We gonna break in a new style flashing a dub plate
My woman have a rhythm she give me in every way
Removing the fears and the pain
Tunes we sing we'll never let die
Sattamassagana or Africa Unite
Whole heap of the people and together we speak
Everyone of them dance sweet
