In my continuing quest to build myself a proper work place, I now turn my attention towards something other than the crappy flimsy aluminum frame desk I have now. I got a fair amount of lateral room to work with, probably at least 5-6 feet, and so I want to see if you guys any recc's for what/where I could be looking? I don't necessarily need two places for monitors because I have stands, but I guess if my desk is going to be against a wall the desk should have monitor shelves... Anyways, I need room for a keyboard/synth/controller in front of me to use along with my keyboard and mouse, and also my audio interface and two computer monitors.

I saw this, and it seems like the type of thing I want:

That's like $1200 though, which is waaay more than I want to spend on a workstation. Any good places to check out? Ikea? Target?

I usually recommend the one I got when I moved in here, http://www.guitarcenter.com/Studio-RTA-Creation-Station-Studio-Desk-102040946-i1152460.gc
http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/public/rU9tStblr8-Cv9-qX2RuUthuPJX0wlc4LEAZgLX5OAn4Qql7OSdCcvjjKCMXIgi4t e_cTRX37QckWQlBrcxOjjdRpDnbrAjoW32mLi9sPr9V8Tflwyk MVKRnu6B0ODQ3Tvezzh5EdwzJsUXGei28yjHuSamSyZjsPIjgf hnxGuAjk2DmoHq1JHcUHgEKxw

Its the standard one they have setup at all the guitar centers for their production work stations. Only 200$ and if you wait for one of those GC coupons that come out every month you can take it down to ~170. The top shelf had room for 1 24in monitor plus my 2 krk6's. Recently got monitor stands though to make room for the eventual second monitor, so theres plenty of room up top for 2.

2 cubby areas with rack holes if you need to rack mount stuff. I use one to stash the audio interface in, the other now houses my mpk25 which I dont use much after getting the axiom pro. Theres also room down below for a workstation box.

So far though I have run into one issue, since getting the axiom it is much deeper than my previous 49key. So I have room for it on the desk, but having my keyboard directly in front of it the keyboard hangs off slightly, just its built in wrist area so its still completely usable, just doesnt look that great having it hang off the edge. So I had to rotate the axiom under one of the cubbys a bit to fit everything in, still works out nicely since its easier to reach and play at that angle

This is what it looks like with the axiom on there:

it's not that fancy, but i'd look at sauder put together furniture.

a few that i'd consider.

i've had the same desk since 2002. got it at meijer for $150. it's definitely not perfect but it works.
you've probably seen it in other threads, but here it is. it used to have a hutch, but i took it off. (these things are pretty easy to customize, if you wanted to add to them).

that's a 13.3 inch macbook, and that's a 23 in LCD on the right, 17 inch LCD on the left. the keyboard stand was 9$ on ebay and i just cut a piece of MDF for the top.

Check that site.

Firefox reports it as an attack site.

Also, I really like the desk in post #2…except that having anything on the desk would block whatever's in the racks.

I actually have a 2-level desk thing split between my trunk and my back seat that a friend gave me a couple days ago. And, I think it's a little bit too small to really be useful. I might find a way to make it work…it looks a lot better than my existing stuff.

It looks ghetto as hell, but as much as I try, I can't find anything better than folding tables without spending a lot of money.

Look here http://www.biomorphdesk.com/ there are not for audio but I think it can bring many ideas on how to set up a desk, then go to ikea and get parts XD Also here http://www.anthro.com/stands.aspx?computer-cart=creative#degitalmusicstudiofurniture

"ghetto as hell" works. think of all those artists who's first album was epic and every album afterwards sucked.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Seems the one catching my eye most is probably the guitar center one, especially on price. Love the racking space, that'll go well with future purchases, and can seem to fit everything

Might still look into ikea mods... every other site is going to be way out of my price range, even though theyre pretty sweet desks

Argosy makes some awesome stuff. It shouldn't be too hard to make a copy if you know a carpenter (or have access to the tools and an idea of how to use them).

Some really nice desks here...I'm outgrowing my desk pretty fast. Really like the ones from Guitar Center as well.
