It feels so gooooooood to be baaaaaaack!

Hi DJF. It's been a while, I've cranked out a few tunes since the blackout, but I though I'd share my latest work with you guys. It's a funky house remix of the song Holding Back the Years by Simply Red. It's a free download, and I also have a shorter edit on my Sound Cloud if you don't want the DJ intro.

I'd love to hear any feedback, comments, etc in exchange for some rep.

Thanks for listening, and follow me on the internet:

Shaan, when I saw that you'd remixed "Holding Back the Years," I was practically giddy. "Holding Back the Years" was one of my favourite ballads of the 1980s, and I was confident that you'd do a quality job with it.

First, the bad news: I was really hoping you'd managed to do a full-vocal remix. As much as I was enjoying what was going on, I kept waiting for a verse to kick in, and in that respect, the remix never delivered. It reminded me of the many times that I would take a "gamble" buying a DMC remix issue for a particular track, only to find after the record arrived that the song I wanted didn't include all the vocals.

So, in that context, I can't help but say that I was disappointed.

On the bright side, if I throw away my expectations and just look at the remix for what it was... it's brilliant. The little trios of synth hits brought in around 1:15 remind me a bit of the Bucketheads' "The Bomb," which I love. The stuttering is great. The layers of synths, the filtering, that massive keyboard sequence starting around 3:30, just everything... it's obvious that you put a ton of effort into this.

Would I work this into a house set? Without question. Even without all the vocals, your production work was solid enough, and the end result was enjoyable enough, that I would gladly include it.

Excellent job.
