A friend of mine asked me if I would help him with a concert and run the lights for him. The local radio station has a birthday bash every year and gives away thousands of tickets to the event. The artists are not the big name stars, but they are up and coming and several past performers are now big stars. This is not the most ideal setup for lighting, but it worked out well. My friend is more of an audio guy and I know a bit more in lighting so next year will be a lot different (as I was only brought in a week ago.)

44 Par cans
7 Slim Par Pro RGBA
10 Martin SCX 500's (mainly used as backlights so they can be seen)
1 Radiance Hazer
2 follow spots

Good job! What did you use to control the scenes?

The par cans were on a multiplex system so they were controlled by their own controller.

The setup was using a small 12 fixture x16 channel DMX controller (sort of like the Obey 40) but I ended up bringing in my laptop that had Blue Light on it. http://www.innovateshowcontrols.com/ It isn't the best controller for a concert, but it did the job.

Par cans seem so yesteryear but they get the job done. Hopefully, this job will help a lot of other larger gigs come your way. I'd be interested in seeing your upgrade path if that were the case.

The majority of the equipment was not mine. I supplied 4 of the scx500's, Radiance Hazer, and the controller. All the rest was the production companies. I am just a DJ and my equipment was purchased for DJing which is a lot different than what is used in a concert. In any case. I am looking to upgrade my own system to Blizzard Torrent 90's so they may get incorporated next yer. I did talk to the production owner and tried to get him to purchase a bunch more of the Slim Par Pros as they produced a ton of light and worked well with where they were placed. We will see what happens next year.
