We're looking for a couple of Moderators to help with the site.

If you'd like to be considered for a position or if you'd like to nominate someone, please do so here.

Monitoring daily activities for spam, rule violations & just watching over the site to keep it clean & neat.

We need people who can be here daily & prefer throughout the day. We realize that everyone cant be here every day, but "daily", generally speaking is needed. Checking in for a couple of minutes here & there throughout the day is preferred. It usually doesn't take but a couple of minutes to take care of most situations.

Veteran members who are well respected is preferred but not necessary.

A probational period of 6 months.

Although this is a really small forum (332 active members) without very many posts per day.
I can tell you it's usually pretty time consuming to be a moderator.

Think so? I recall it being ~15 minutes a day on average depending on shenanigans. Most of the time, the focus is on low post count SPAM and those who post mixes outside of the appropriate areas.

Manu and Dix, what are your thoughts?

Sorry, that's not true. It merely takes me a couple of minutes to deal with the usual issues of giving a heads up to new members. The rest of the spam is literally 2 clicks away from the ejecting seat.

"Pretty time consuming" is a sweeping statement, like how long does it takes for a cannon to cool down after being fired.

I agree, its not really that time consuming on this forum because its not as active as it used to be 5 or 6 years ago. Most things only take a couple of minutes to take care of. Some things do take a little investigating. Some things take a some in-depth investigating. For a new mod, it will take a little longer because it takes some time to learn to navigate the process. Once a mod is familiar with the process, he may spend 2 minutes on a basic issue at most. Spam-o takes about 10 seconds to go through the process. Moving a thread or post, 15 seconds. Reporting & issuing warnings or infractions etc, two minutes.

Dont get me wrong, it can be time consuming when investigating some clever spammers that conceal things in posts that look legit, but its usually not a big process in general. The hardest part of being a mod here is learning the process. Its not hard, its just different & learning how to navigate the process of what you need to do.

I think the biggest factor in being a moderator here is just checking in several times a day on a computer to be able to do mod activities. Its very difficult to perform mod activities from a phone. Its important to be able to check in multiple times a day if only for 5 minutes at a time. Some things like spam etc need to be caught & addressed ASAP. So, its not really time consuming... its just checking in regularly. Again, most things can be addressed here in less than 5 minutes, usually in less than a minute.
The next thing is being well respected & knowledgeable in certain things or well rounded in many area's.
You need to have some seniority & time/experience in & about this forum & how it works & its purpose etc.

We look at many different aspects of a members history in order to determain if he is a good fit to become a moderator.

This is an important point and thanks for bringing it up, Dix.

The fastest method of moderating is with a computer. While basic things (bans, eliminating SPAM, removing threads) can be done fairly quickly with a mobile device, the computer is always faster at doing them. For a time, I moderated with Tap-a-Talk on my mobile phone and it took longer to do in total. Particularly if you want to send a warning (which requires typing).

Spam-o takes about 10 seconds to go through the process.
OK smaller and less active makes a lot bigger difference than I thought.

In the early 2000s I helped moderate an oil, mud, and jello forum. (Forum tools may have improved over the years.)
Spambots would flood the forum so fast you would ned an administrator to temporarily shut down the site and ban the IP.

And people were constantly trying to post porn or links to porn.
So there were multiple moderators constantly deleting/editing stuff 24/7.

We have software in place now that blocks most of that stuff before it ever gets onto the board, so that eliminates a lot of that. Some does get by the software, so mods have to catch some.

It's like how viruses used to be something you had to work at to avoid to keep your computer running. And now you almost never hear of anybody getting one.

I've been here every day since joining (even though I don't always post), but that was only a few months ago, so I don't expect that I meet your criteria. However, if you're still looking for mods in a year or so please consider my application.

I've only been a mod for about a week now, and so far it's not as time consuming as I originally thought either. I log in, check my sections and if all is well, carry on. I have yet to perform any actual mod duties like give an infraction / warning, delete post ect. - one of the senior mods usually beat me to it - so I cant comment on that yet. Overall though, so far so good.

Oil, mud and jello forum? I don't think I want to know

Oil, mud and jello forum? I don't think I want to know :lol:I Googled it and the Site and the forum no longer exist.
It was similar to Girls Gone Wild except there wasn't any nudity.
The women in the videos owned the site.
With the money from the site, they financed a shelter for abused and neglected women.
