There seems to be hardly any reviews on this mixer. I know it is good, but I don't know why there are so little? So tempted to get this as it suits my style of mixing perfectly, with a little scratching thrown in.

Its been around for awhile, and it is also a very good mixer. There havent been many upgrades to it, but its probably cause its one of the best at what its made for. Rane is also known for great build quality and awesome sounding mixers. If your hesitant, I personally would just dive in. I own a Rane 61 and its by far one of my favorite mixers.

Also if you take your time you can find some really good deals for it. There was just one that went in the classifieds for pretty cheap.

I had the Empath for about 7 years. Never had a problem with it except for the loose small earphone jack - apparently other Rane mixers suffer from this. Not a big deal since the mixer comes with 2 earphone jacks.

The mixer is built like a tank and very versatile. I've used it for scratching and mixing EDM. However, I wouldn't recommend it at its brand new price. You can get better value elsewhere. Its a steal if you can find used for about half its price in store.

What questions do you have specifically about the unit? I can give you a pretty good comparison from my other mixers.. (I ran pretty much side by sides because most of my old ones are either sold to friends or in my closet lol).

The sound is very interesting its extremely "clean" only way I can put it. While some mixers (djm 600) can be very harsh/artificialish sounding (hard to really explain); the empath is extremely even. Another thing in comparison to the xone 22 I owned, which would almost add a sort of quality to the sound the empath doesnt, its a very accurate reproduction of the sound.

This may just all be my own ears but I'm sure you'll hear similar things from others..

I'm in no way a scratch dj, but the faders are straight sex.

Only cons so far: the LED on the cueing can be a bit confusing until you get use to them..

Not sure if I read a review on djf 1.0, but I was sold on the empath pretty fast. I picked up a used one a few years back, got rid of it to give controllers a chance, and now I'm back with the empath, but it's the rotary version. I couldn't be more happy with it and I really don't see myself switching it out anytime soon.

Only thing that could make it any better is if they added on a 4th channel and maybe some channel leds.

Channel LEDs would make it perfect. For personal taste a knob for the cue/master selection rather than the fader..

I had a blue one with two blue Stanton turntables. Unfortunately I had to pawn it & the turntables. Never had the money to get them out of hock, so the pawn ticket expired.

I have an Empath rotary. It is, by far, the best sounding mixer I've ever owned. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of newer mixers, but if you're looking for a simple mixer that does all the necessary things well, it's hard to go wrong. I really wish there was a four channel version, but c'est la vie.

I may sell this someday, but probably not haha.
