As a backup for a mobile DJ, i'm going to run 2 powered 12's and use an ipod.
I'm looking for a mixer to run these.
yamaha, mackie?
Something like the Mackie 402-VLZ3 or the Yamaha MG102c.
I see a bunch ranging from 100 to 500
simple and basic is best, as this is purely for backup.

Thanks.

+1 for the exact same reason. I'm hoping there's one under $100 as I'll probably never use it (fingers crossed).

Maybe your looking for a live sound mixer?

Dedicated DJ mixers usually being only 2 channels (some 4) kind of limit your inputs if you look to ever expand on this backup rig. A really cheap, simple DJ mixer you could look into thats under 100 bucks is the Numark M101. It sells for about $80. They do have a decent 4 channel mixer that would work as a backup called the Numark C2 that has served me well in the past. The other route to go, kind of what DYM was hinting at, is going with a "live sound" mixer such as, what you were already getting at with the Mackie VLZ series. Or, you could go with mackie's "profx" series, available in different number of channels, respectively. If you are going to have the situation arise where an extra mic input or two is needed (per say karaoke or such) then I would recommend going with a live sound mixer. All depends on how you DJ, what you incorporate into, etc. Best Regards and Happy Gigging!!!

I use the Peavey PV6 for this use and its $100 or less. I use it fore ceremonies , cocktail areas, and small family get togethers when pulling a rack out isn't necessary or feasible.

Awesome. The PV6 will most likely be a better choice since it doubles as a mic mixer if I ever need up to 4 microphones.
