I am a little confused....

I am having a hard time choosing whether I should make my playlists in Rekordbox DJ as...

1. Genres (EDM, Hip Hop, Pop, R&B, Old Skool, etc.)

or...

2. Venue / Date / Event (Ethan's Wedding, Christmas Party, Ryan's Birthday, 07/08/2016 Party, The Grand, Golf Course, Indigo Night Club etc.)

Which would be easier/best...?

What do you guys use and/or suggest...?

What are some 'clever' / 'unique' playlist suggestions you have used or seen/suggest...?

Thanks.

I dont have play lists. As a mobile DJ, every event is different in some aspect. I am not going to play Ethans wedding like I play a Christmas party nor like I play Ryan's birthday. They are all very different events.

After I discuss what kind/type/style/genre's of music each client wants for his specific event, I prepare for that. I get a mind set for "that" event. Personally, I do not plan my sets. I take ideas from each client for their specific event & I find a starting point that I know will work for that clients specific event & I get a feel for & play to the crowd based on what the client has discussed with me & chose/play each song based on the last song. I do not plan sets. I choose songs as I go through the night, based on the guests reactions & mix sets accordingly. Even if I play 10 weddings in a row, I will play them all differently. Every client is unique & every event is unique. There are no sets. I have a library of music & I choose music from that library for each individual client & each individual event.

I have my library in folders by artists name, then by song title. I have a general music folder that is all general music which consists of many genre's including, oldies, pop, Rock & Roll, Disco, Country etc. Then I have folders for genres that I do play occasionally, but not generally, like Hip Hop, Rap, Rock, Instrumentals, Jazz, Christmas, Kids music (like Barney songs etc).
The software I use makes it very easy to load only the general music folder or any combinations of other folder/genres, individually or at the same time.
