Hailing from Bahrain by way of South Africa, our newest recruit displays a prodigious talent for evocative melodic interplay throughout this three tracker of classic yet ultra-modern deep house. Ray's wistful keys interlace full-bodied organ riffs on 'Retro', stirring up a transportive melancholic atmosphere without ever sacrificing sumptuous low-end. Title track 'Night Watchman' continues the theme with echoing bells and hollow pads setting the tone as rolling sub-bass keeps the adventure moving forward. On the first of three remixes, Archipel label boss Pheek flexes his skills with an edgy and hypnotic rework that toughens things up for the late night set; next up, Thoughtless alumnus Derek Marin brings his Brooklyn style to the fore with bouncing percussion and clever arrangements for the club; last but not least, Toronto upstart Zaid Edghaim combines a stripped-down approach with jacking drums for a minimalist interpretation that preserves all the depth of the original while subtly increasing its momentum. Finally, 'The Secret Carrier' showcases Ray's unique style as an array of melodic segments interlock like so many puzzle pieces, all while maintaining an impressive fluidity and cinematic narrative throughout. Perfectly crafted for both club and headphones, Thoughtless expands our roster with a special release from a promising new artist: Daniel Ray.
