ok so as of lately i've been getting requests to do house parties and cookouts. Only problem is I don't have any pa equipment. I would just rent some speakers but if i do the amount of money i would have to charge people would be too high. SO i'm at the point where i'm ready to buy some speakers. I need something portable that will fit in the trunk of my car. Something self powered because i don't want to have to haul amps around. The parties i'll be doing will have 100 people tops. I've been looking at the JBL EON series but they are rather pricey. Help me out folks, what are some speakers comparable to the JBLs for a decent price. I want to be as portable as possible (nothing to big and heavy) but i still need something that will crank loud enough to fill a bassment or outdoors at a cookout. Any suggestions. Oh yeah, my price range is about $600
If you have no equipment, why are people asking you to do parties? Ususally people find out you have the stuff, then ask if you'll dj for them...Anyway..you my try the Carvin PM15A's. They are $349.00 each and have 300 watts for the 15" driver and 50 watts for the horn. I've heard and read all good things about them and they cost half as much as EONS or Mackies..
You could always pick up the B-52 Matrix system. They make it with 10's or 12's and a 15in sub. Not sure if it will fit in your truck but talk about a house party PA!!!

I tell you- they should really make a 15in matrix system. But anyways- yes- go with the matrix 2000 (i beleive that is the correct model) with 12in drivers. that should hold you up.
PS: dont get the old style eon's (grey with 130watt low driver amp and 50 watt high amp) if you ever reconsider the series. they are horrible in my opinion.

@jdiddy - there are a couple of places out here that rent PA systems out for situations like mine. Only thing is I would have to pass that cost right along with what i would charge
i went to guitar center this weekend and checked out the matrix 1000 system.
Man the system cranks, sounds great. It's $800. I think the 1000 should be enough for me. Only thing is it's not as portable as I would like, but i'll have to work around that. Borrow somebodies truck or somethin when i do parties. I think i'm going to buy the system sometime this month.
Hope it works out good for ya. Glad I could help :)
