Im going to change my name to George Conquer so i would really love it if somebody could make me a free logo,i want it to be very simple but i absolutely suck at anything to do with picture editing/graphic design.

I want it to be on a back background, something along the lines of this (https://i1.sndcdn.com/avatars-000173045487-3alplz-t500x500.jpg),different font of course, but you get the idea.

That's quite good, much better than the other one. G&Q works really well with the cut.

Wicked technique. Looking at the link of the original idea, do you have any idea how the shadow is technically wrong but works. I use photoshop a bit but a heads up on that method would be great.

Is it simply just different layer manipulation or is there a control for this?

thats using a 2nd layer, duplicate the original (CTRL + J - CMD + J on mac) on the bottom layer, make a new colour with colour over lay (i use bright red or green or something whilst i'm doing it, shows the work flow easier, then change it to grey etc when you're done) and just use the transform tool to bring it in a little bit in the upper left and lower right corners.
