Does anyone have any experience with this powered sub? Is it a quality sub and how much is one in fair condition worth?

Thanks,
Yi

That is a cobbled together sub by the looks of it.

From the front it is clearly a discontinued version of the RCF Art 705 AS sub as shown here...

The back, however, is not the original plate amp (see the pictures in the link above for it).

The plate amp in the back of the one you have posted is this one...

Hope that helps.

That definitely isn't the amp plate, steer clear of this one.

Thanks Captain! This helped tremendously. I searched for a couple of hours trying to reference that sub.

I've been a member here for a couple of years and recall the good reviews of RCF speakers. They're not as prevalent in the U.S. so of course I was intrigued when I saw it for sale at Sam Ash. I figured I could add an additional sub for cheap.

But now that I know that the original amp has been switched to a subpar unit then I'm definitely passing on this one.

Thanks again,
Que Yi

Even if it isn't a sub par plate amp, it wasn't designed with the RCF drivers in mind, and hence won't provide optimal performance. Maybe it is close and would do a decent job, but you don't know that.

Kudos for checking, and heeding the advice of people who know.

No different then a passive sub and a external amp.

I'd be amazed if that box still had a RCF driver inside it.

I agree. That's another reason why I had second thoughts about buying it.

Good point. Let me put it another way. If that plate amp was originally on another cabinet from another mfg, the DSP portion of it is probably configured to benefit specific drivers in a specific cabinet. The odds of it working optimally for the drivers and cabinet it is connected to now, is slim.

I'm not sure how many powered speakers don't have DSP, but if it doesn't it still doesn't have the DSP that I'm sure the RCF had originally. That's really the point. You have an RCF cabinet here that at the very least, doesn't have the same plate amp it came with meaning at best the result is simply different, and it is just as likely that the result is a badly matched set of components.

It probably doesn't have a DSP at all.
May not even have a low pass.

So, just forget it.
