Odd sound output

I have a JBL Prx 618 and whenever I use it out, I always get rediculous amounts of bass behind the booth, but when I walk around front, literally all the bass is gone, and it sounds like shit. Anyone know why this is? And also whenever I turn the phase switch to reverse it sounds a lot better..

Anyone know why this is? The relative positions of you, the rear wall and the speaker. Subs should almost always be placed with the baffle less than 2 feet from a rear wall, and as often as not work better aiming at the wall from about a foot away.
