Decided it's time to upgrade to CDJ's, but had a quick question. If I want to use SSL and the time coded CD's, would these work on any version of the CDJ's? I'm thinking of going with the CDJ 850

Short answer yes. Running SSL (at least) 2.3 version it has HID (human interface device) built in control for the 850's, so you will not need the t/c cds in that case. Same goes for CDJ900's/350/2000/400.

Use the search function in the forums, this has been touched on before.

Werd!! what he said..

btw saw dis on Serato website.

LED display on CDJ slightly glitchy

The track information display for the CDJ350 and CDJ850 can sometimes freeze briefly, making it appear slightly glitchy. This does not effect playback at all and any freeze of the display will only be momentary.

Both of these known issues only affect the Pioneer CDJs when used in HID mode and don't exist when using the Scratch LIVE control CDs. (http://serato.com/faq/scratchlive/10113)

HID Devices Require Mac OS X 10.5.6+

If you are planning on using HID devices on Mac OSX 10.5 (Leopard), then you must use OSX version 10.5.6 or up. HID devices include Rane mixers such as the Rane Sixty-Eight or TTM 57SL and some 3rd party controllers such as the Pioneer CDJ-400, CDJ-900, or CDJ-2000 CD players. you don't need the timecode CD's with the 850's....the 850's are HID capable, which allows you more function than the timecodes.

IIRC, you'll need three USB ports - 2 for the CDJs and one for the SLx. I can't recall if the CDJs work well with a USB hub.

Anything that will output the timecode signal should work, you could record it on a reel to reel tape and output that to your serato box.
