I don't get to write in the mobile forum cos I'm mainly a bedroom/bar/club DJ these days. So I thought after last weekend I may as well write down about the gig it did.
So I hired a 1K rig and a disco ball with 2 lights and a "DJ Cube" - [usual yucky big citronic mixer, denon CDs]. There was one missing cable for a light, not enough plug sockets supplied, and one CD player didn't work. I had a spare cable and plenty of spare plugs. I wasn't gonna use those crappy Denons much anyway.
Of course I brought up my mixer and decks and records. I also used a laptop and ipods.
The rig I hired was tiny due to budgetary requirements. The venue was 100% room big enough to hold over 100 which was the size of the wedding party.
I brought all the old classics from my days as a wedding DJ. I realised early on that it was gonna be strictly pop-cheese the whole way through. Having the laptop there was really cool. I could line tracks up with I-tunes and click them when I wanted them. Next time I will get proper software so I could cue and mix over.
I guess vinyl is pretty much redundant where weddings are concerned nowadays, but I still rocked a small scratch party-hip hop set for show. I played about 4 house tunes all night. I made sure everyone got to hear the track they requested and I repeated a few tracks. I played a couple of sets for the bride and groom.
Everyone had a nice time and there were no problems. Moving the equipment just using sedans was a bit annoying, especially while hung over the next morning.
thats all - bye!
