View Full Version : Insurance Requirements question.. help please
Hi guys, Need help here!
For those who are providing wedding DJ service, do you carry worker's compensation insurance? Have you been required to provide that by the venues? If you do carry that, where (which insurance company) did you buy it from and what is the cost? I am in NY
Thanks so much for your help and insights!

Since no one else has posted...
I am a single op & dont carry it. As for your question, I have never been asked by a venue for proof of workman's comp. I was trying to think back at any discussion about workman's comp & I don't recall but very little discussion here. I recall quite a lot of discussion on liability insurance being required by some venues but not about W/C.
While I am not discouraging the purchase of W/C, I dont remember anyone else saying they need it. If it's just that one venue that's asking for it, it may not be worth buying W/C for just that one gig. You may want to consider passing on the gig (the venue), if they require it.
After saying all that, I will say this... everything posted above is guess work, I have no first hand knowledge. Wait for some others to post before making a decision on my post.
Hope this helps... Good luck :) TC

I had a venue manager say I needed it once. I told them I am a single op and therefore don't need to carry it. She said okay, and never asked me again. If someone told me I actually needed it, I'd probably turn down the gig.
I spend enough money to operate and I'm not going to carry yet another cost because some stuckup venue is trying to protect their ass.
W/C is only needed if you hire EMPLOYEES.
A sole proprietor with no hired help, would be exempt under all 50 state's W/C laws.
