View Full Version : Best way to learn sound design

Right ive been making music for abot 9 months now, so feel i should know more about this, rather than tweaking stuff that sounds near the sound i want, or just randomly making sounds.

I try to fiddle about on massive but i always get same kind of sounds haha.

Any tip son best way to learn?

Id say start reversing engineering the patches. Ill go open up 2 instances of a synth if I find a patch I really like and then start going through and duplicating everything so I can hear how it changes as I start to add the various things, that way it becomes obvious which elements of it give it its defining characteristics

I made a thread over on the IDM forums awhile back with everything you need to know about sound design and synthesis. It explains absolutely everything in detail and there is pretty much about 3 hours of just content + extra's.

Ahh perfect, thanks for this, i actually searched idm aswell, must have not been with it that day! lol
