View Full Version : CALLING OUT: Deep House Battle

- 1v1 or 1v1v1
- 30 minutes long
- due date/voting time should be discussed
Rules are flexible

My first battle, I've been mixing for about 2 years now and I want to see how I compare. I think the length should be longer then 30 mins but then we'd likely have no voters zzzz (considering how 30 mins is the norm).

Sooo yeah, anyone interested?

I might be down but I am:

A) Not very good at differentiating some sub-genres. I play a lot of funky stuff (as you heard) but do have some tracks I think could be considered deep.

B) Not very sure how many deep tracks I have.

I realized while posting this that I dont know what makes a track "deep house" lol, i mean i'd call a track deep/chill/low energy...
Anyway im not going to be a stickler, as long as its relaxed and house music. You think i should change the title?

Hahahaha.

I know obvious deep stuff... I get down with some Migs but Chandler gets a bit too deep for me (though every now and then the mood will strike me right).

Hahaha... exact same boat. I try to shy away from labeling it and just play what sounds good to me. I always say that I listen to house - nothing too anything - nothing too deep, too funky, too disco, too progressive, etc.

A 30-minute mix is 7 or 8 tracks tops (if you speed through them) and I should have enough... but I still have to check cuz a lot of them that have "deep" samples end up being pretty funky/upbeat.

i'd also like to join the battle if we go with the relaxed/chill house sound.. cause i can't say for sure if the tracks i consider deep-house are deep-house and not tech/minimal or whatever. never been good with those genre stuff :D

I'm the same but mine is on the funkier edge.

so it sounds like we got 3 chaps who aren't willing to bet much on their genre definitions for "'deep' house"
What do you guys think for time to work on the mix?

m:cake

Shieeeet, mofo - calling us out and you ain't even ready? Fools have been capped for less than that!

Just playin'... whatever is clever. Gives me a bit more time to look for my elusive deep tracks.

any space for one more guy?

...as long as you don't quite know what exactly constitutes deep house like us. Haha.

(Not my call out, but I'm ok with it.)

I'd be down, as well.

Or I'd be down to go up against any of the others not in the original competition.

30 minutes is a good length. Don't really have to plan that out, just play musics.

ok 3 way then.. and to be clear on rules.. i d say without efx and also no post production, anything else to add? or do you disagree with those rules?

Spife
04-01-2012, 10:12 AM
Yeah those sound good, no efx and no post production editing (I assume that's what you meant, I just want to be as clear as possible).

m:cake
04-01-2012, 03:52 PM

Do people really edit mixes after recording them?

Do people really edit mixes after recording them?

I don't usually unless I recorded more than 74' and I want it to fade out @ 74'... for burning purposes.

Do people really edit mixes after recording them?

I have, but that was because I was recording for a mix competition, ran out of time on the last take and threw a track in there that I wasn't prepared for lol. I just quickly patched it up.

Spife

11:59 pm (in your time zone) on sat the 7th. If we're going for a week (and I assumed we were) then yeah that's 7 days later.

ben mills

If anyone gets left out and still feels like a battle, I'm down. Or up for it. Whatever lingo you prefer.
