I've got a house party and don't really want to run a sub so i was thinking of bringing my peavey 215s instead of my mackie srm-450s. The mackies sound cleaner but don't put out nearly as much low end as the peaveys.

How many people? Also why don't you want to use a sub?

House parties are one of the few times when I don't usually drag in a sub. Why? Houses are small and don't have room for the sub. And because throwing my K12's on Deep mode are usually good enough.

Are you trying to have the cops show up from extreme volume? Or is this a chill party?

Just bring the Mackies and call it a day :)

God Bless!

Yeah, unless it's a MASSIVE house, no need for the sub. I usually run a pair of RCF art 312as at about half power & they're more than sufficient.

Disagree, I used to max out the subs at house parties because it's so easy to get concert-level bass due to cabin gain :)

It's also easy to get glassware falling off shelves. just sayin' Shoot, djteknovibe used to talk about how he cracked the walls in his flat.

I usually want a sub for an outdoor house party but if its inside tops only are fine. Though, I have been in some basements where the walls have been removed and it looks like a lounge, a sub seems right then.

I don't actually mind having a sub at a house party, but chances are, you need to turn down the levels. A little goes a long way. Also, due to the longer wavelengths, you need a certain minimum size room... I'm sure someone can chime in with more info on problems with rooms that are too small.

For typical house parties indoors, its either my K12's or EON 515 nothing more.

+1. For house parties I just use my K12s on DEEP. Gets the job done. I don't own a sub anyways.

It's an 80's themed party in an upscale neighborhood and they're expecting around 50 people. I wanted to avoid police attention so I figure that not running a sub might help. That, and the crowd is going to be mostly well-off people in their 30's so it's not like a frat party. Not having subs will leave me more room in the truck for lights, I got the gig through the caterer that will be serving food for the party so I'm thinking I'll go nuts with the lights and mad mixing skills to try to impress them so they remember me when they cater corporate parties and weddings. (I don't normally do house parties since they're more trouble than they're worth most of the time.)

Thanks for all the responses everyone! Any input/advice is welcome.

I ended up going with the peaveys and no sub. The gig was a smashing success but I think I'll bring a sub in the future for gigs like that. I could have used just a little bit more bottom end.
