I just never can get over just how much compression is overused in the trance genre. Not so much psy/goa or minimalist, obviously, but I'd say at least half of the vocal, tech, and progressive stuff out there is pretty much useless in its digital form. Even some of the vinyl only lasts a few plays before it's ruined, a result of the cardinal sin of the loudness war even encroaching on the sacred realm of phonograph masters. What a shame that the dynamics are lost on so much digital releases to the point it's borderline noise, with the bass and mids crushed into a blurry mess when the mix picks up!
