It really doesn't matter. Pick one and master it. THEN decide what you want to grow with.

In my opinion the VCI-300 is a better controller. However as KLH said: buy one and master it.

The VCI-300 is way better than the mix track pro. You can probably pick it up for under $500 easily. If you think you want to get serious about it then I would suggest maybe getting a better controller like the ns6 or kontrol s4. A better question would be the most you would like to spend on a controller? I'm also not sure what you mean by just a mixer. Do you mean just getting a mixer that is midi-compatible because otherwise you would not be able to use it for anything without having cdjs or turntables.

Of course, now there's the VCI-380 ... and it looks nice!

Vestax is clearing out the 300s to make room for the 380. Even Guitar Center sells them now for $500, with a rebate to get the VFX-1 for free (That's a $200 unit!). Unless there's something about the 380 you absolutely must have, I'd jump on the 300 deal now before they're all gone. I got one, and I love it.
