Have you ever wanted to create some DIY DJ equipment but thought to yourself "I'm not mechanically inclined", "I don't know how to work that", or "I have a liberal arts degree"? Well, I thought those exact same things, but I found a way to make some CDJ stands for your table that even Forrest Gump could make!

This is for you people who are not very inclined to this sort of stuff because it really is pretty damn simple. It's also good for people that ARE good at this stuff because you can really build off the simple concept to make it better.

I went to my local Home Depot without any real clue as to what stuff I was going to buy. I was lucky enough to be helped by one of those old guys that work there(you know, the old guy at the hardware store who looks like he built his own house from scratch in the dead of winter....while wolves were attacking him....yeah, that guy). So he really helped. I purchased all the supplies and came home, ready to CREATE!

Step 0: Buy all this shit

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-15214535.jpg

Items needed:

3/4" screws - x8
1" screws - x8
Floor Flange - x4
18" Metal Pole thing - x2
3/4" Elbow @ 45 degrees - x2
3/4" nipple - x2
Sandpaper
A 6-Pack of your choice
Wood cut to the size of your CDJs(I was doing it with Pioneer 800s, so it was 12"x13"
Wood to create the bottom of your wood stand so the CDJ will stay up

Step 1: Open Beer #1

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-15214602.jpg

Step 2: Take Metal Pole, Elbow, Nipple and Floor Flange x2 to create your stand

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-15215120.jpg
See how easy that shit is? It all just screws together!

Step 3: Check the size of the wood that was cut for you at Home Depot and be amazed that the bullshit estimate you gave them was spot on

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-15215810.jpg

Step 4: Saw your extra pieces to create the "base" so that when your CDJ is at a 45 degree angle it will stay up

....
....
....

Fuck sawing.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-15221121.jpg

Step 4.5: Realize 20 minutes later that THIS saw is much easier to use. Consume Beers 2, 3, 4 and 5

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-15222100.jpg

Step 5: Screw your metal stand to the 12"x13" piece of wood you have

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-16124933.jpg

Step 6: Attach the pieces you sawed to the 12"x13" base(with either screws or nails, I used nails)

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-16124944.jpg

Step 7: Take your other Floor Flange and attach it to your table

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-16130405.jpg

Step 8: SCREW THAT SHIT IN AND YOU'RE DONE

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-16135756.jpg

Pop the cap off beer #6 and enjoy, you earned it!

This is REALLY cheap, too. The total cost for this project was $56($66 if you count the beer, and you should probably count the beer).

it's not that it's hard to make, it's that it looks unprofessional especially when considering the cost of cdjs.. I'd just rather shell out a couple hundred on a couple stands for them.

The woodwork isn't the best because I'm not very good at that stuff. It's a quick setup now and a friend of mine is going to help me create a nice wood frame for it in the next couple of weeks. The good part about the metal frame is that all the pieces screw together so if you ever want to upgrade/replace anything it's just a matter of unscrewing it and putting the other part you want on.

That seems to be an insufficient amount of beer to complete the job...

I made a wood mixer stand for my allen and heath, i feel more satisfied in making it than buying a premade one. plus you can spray paint it flat black and it looks good. or you could paint it glossy black, put like 3 coats of clear coat on it, wait for it to dry and wet sand it with 2000+ grit sand paper. would look bangin.

Yeah, it'll look really nice when I replace the current wood frame with the finalized one. I made that one in a couple hours last night because I had picked up the CDJs and I didn't have enough room on my table for them.

my advice for ANY wood you get cut is to get it done AT the store. unelss you have a way to make precise cuts, then get it done there. its usually free, or for a nominal fee they will cut it to whatever you want :). also, get some sand paper to smooth out the wood and then prime an paint. works like a charm! oh and get 12 by xxx screws, the thinner the better.

Thanks for the write up :) Repped

The way you've joined those stops is is prone to fail after a while. Especially screwing into the edge of plywood. Two shallow blocks, screwed down from the top, would be better. Bit like this:

(sorry for the crap photo, I had to crop it from a larger crap photo)

Agreed with Synergy. Especially if MDF was used instead of ply.

Like I said, the wood stand is only lasting me a couple weeks until I replace it.

Just spray everything gloss black and it'll look a lot better.

Nothing wrong with these DIY stands. Just spray paint them and they will look sick......

Just came back from Home Depot..lol...$42 even for what I needed...why replace them? touch of sandpaper, paint and gloss and these things will be great...plus you can route the wires through the pipe.

Mix in a little sanding and some stain or some paint, plus maybe some rubber bumpers, and boom, professional looking stands.

Thank you for this funny but helpful guide :D
Are you maybe taking it to the next level, with painting or something like that ?

good job.. really all you need, unless you are in to the the dick swinging contest.. Just a couple tweaks will make for something that are sure to be a failing point in the future (depending on if you are rough on stuff like me)

right here...
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-16124933.jpg

I would personally drill holes through the wood, then use botls, nuts, and washers to be sure that the screws do not come loose, or fall out causing your cdj to come crashing down (on both the table and the wood)

for this...
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/Ikkan/2012-03-16124944.jpg

Just get a some 2 1/2" or so bolts and nuts, drill four (or however many you want) holes through the wood, have the bolts sticking up through the wood, tighten the nuts, and bam, those will be all you would need. find some black caps to cover the threads if you want, and it will look a little nicer.

Another tweak you can do for the "picky" people is to use some 1/4" or more plexiglass.. or some sheet metal (but that would require more than typical hand tools)

good idea though
