I like the backside more then the front, but it is still real sharp.

With the poster...

I don't think the poster is as good as the flyer - not that it's bad. I just don't like it as much.

I really love that flyer though. The "spiralling galaxy" background with the simple white blocky space invader on it looks great IMO. Simple, but really cool. I can't put my finger on why I don't like the poster as much - I think it might be the font/layout of the upper 3/5ths - but it still looks good!

I thought about this and I made some minor tweaks that I think make a huge difference:

side note: is it not an expensive way to get "1st impressions" printing a load off?

Not sure if sarcasm or not... I'm rendering them out in 3D; makes it easier to visualise than a flat file.

:D I have my render settings cranked... Takes about 5 minutes to render out one of those previews and I have a very powerful computer built for rendering LOL... I take my promo material seriously.

its very good, i'm impressed, the only give away now that you have told me is that an actual print would have white sides probably from the guillotine/cutting process.

You're absolutely correct, I could texture the sides in white to make it more realistic but because I'm lazy :D

Looks nice but what's with all the empty space below Cover $10 etc?
And that big title and thin parts below that don't look balanced because all the weight is in the upper part.
That is just what my teacher taught me in graphic design and I'm not even an amateur yet!
Just my $0.02.

Short answer? I have nothing to put there.

And that big title and thin parts below that don't look balanced because all the weight is in the upper part.

That's intentional, it's about eye movement and not balance. "Skylab" is a recognisable name here because this is number 20. I will only be printing about 20 of the poster which will go on the doors at a handful of similar events before April 5th. I want people to see first that it's a flyer for skylab which is why it's huge and second who is playing which is why it's dead center on the flyer and backed in white transparent.

Actually... I take all that back... when I moved the address I didn't move the logos which made it weird... I moved the logos and I like it better this way.

Honestly, the text looks a bit off to me. Almost as if it comes across kind of cheap. I definitely couldn't do a better job. Other than that, I like it!

On the poster or flyer? Or both?

EDIT: actually I think I know what you were seeing.. I got rid of the outlines and changed the DJs to a drop shadow... Does this http://i.imgur.com/US75agx.png look better?

^ in that image, the bottom portion looks great. It flows with the poster. The white text just seems out of place. It feels to me like it was just slapped on there and called good. I don't know if you need to blend it in a bit more or what. Could just be me being a nitpicker!

see on the back of the flyer, the text is in a half opacity white box with 100% opacity highlighted digital edges, those PCB looking lines, and has the orbit logo for skylab etc, why not follow that through to the poster design also?
