Hi Forum

has anybody tried this free DJ software:

http://www.mixxx.org/

if so is it worth while or which software would you recommend?

Thanks a lot for your insights :)

You live in Berlin. Buy a mixer and some TTs and go to Hardwax........thats what I would do.

In my eyes there are 2 software choices for DJs that want to mix like a club DJ.

Traktor and Serato.

JMO.

Aye, I don't think he's doing it on purpose, but I could tell from the URL that the site was probably a bit dodgy which is why I scanned the download.

Here's the legit link to the software: -

Yeah I don't understand why would people download an application from 3rd party ssite instead of the original software maker site.

Has anyone used this? Is anyone interested in knowing more? If so, I think I'm going to give it a shot and report back if anyone is interested.

Yes I have tried Mixxx a bunch of times.

For years it was the only controller dj software for Linux...
For years it was just so so (worked, but only for very ****** mixing.. lots of latency, not efficient etc).

But the last time I tried it, at least a year ago, the developers had actually made a lot of progress and it was looking very sharp and worked well. latency had been improved greatly, and it looked sharp. I could not get it working right with my Novation Twitch which is kind of a weird controller, so I gave up on it. But I was def surprised with how far they had gone with it. And nice that they got the mac and windows ports working too.

So yea, I would def suggest checking it out to see how well it works for you. But of course yea get it from the official page.

Even though commercial DJ software isn't all that expensive, the nice thing about open source is the convenience of not having to deal with licenses and limitations, you just install it wherever you need it, whenever you need it.
