Hip-hop here, but since I call it "mixing" and everything I mix is from the 21st Century you'll probably want to put me on ignore anyway :D

What century is it now? But yes, if you're a hip-hop DJ that only plays music from 2000 onwards then I would probably punch you in the head.

LOL, love this thread. Aside from my Electro, Trance, and D&B, I also like to dabble in 90's Hip-Hop.

And it's the 21st century now.

Dabbling with 90s hip-hop - OK. You can come in, but I'll be keeping my eye on you.

haha, sweet! Funny thing is, I was playing some last night, and was thinking, "do people still listen to the older Hip-Hop?" I miss 2pac, Biggie, Bone Thugs, Nas, Mary J., Lil Kim, Snoop, Ice Cube... Now we got the likes of Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj...

And I know we still got Snoop and Ice Cube, but Snoop is now a Lion and Ice went Hollywood, haha

Grind a small ball bearing in half and glue to the central weight point. Should work.

I dabble in hip hop and reggae, dub and dancehall quite often. Soul and funk not so much, if I had the time though...

I sometimes play a little bit of UB40 inbetween Status Quo and Wham. Does that count as reggae? ;)

I do not.

But I just found a bunch of cool 90's hip hop records, among other thing, def some soul and funk and a little disco. I bought a lot of records last year and am just getting around to digging in them.

Tempted to go up to ole guitar center and pick up some better needles. I tryed fooling around a little with the shit house one I bought, a pair for like $100, Stanton. Garbage.

Imo if you play hip hop and less than 50 percent of your library is pre 2000, your doing it wrong.

Not seroius, but I cant imagine spinning a hip hop set made up of the radio garbage; would rather shove a screwdriver through my eye/10

I spin all of the above, plus Soca.

akswun

I spin all of that -soca... don't have much chutney or pan, dated a Trini girl once. But thats as close as I get to Soca. Reggae only because the hood girls in my part of town want that ish. Like its the only thing that makes them dance.

As for hiphop, I grew up with late 80's-90's hiphop. 2000-up yeah I do that too. But if I was going to do a mixtape other than the Trap one I did last year it would def be centred around 90s hiphop. Been thinking of doing a series focused on artists I loved in the 90s like the Roots, anything from Duck Down, Mobb Deep etc. Being from Toronto I've been more influenced by East coast rap. And Akswun/acts_one comes from an old tag name I used to fuck up my city with. I was Toy, nothing big other than some throw ups.
