Looking at getting my first headset. I posted a thread about this earlier but I'm about to pull the trigger on one of the two and need as quick of a reply as possible.

I am looking at both of the headphones above. Does anyone have a suggestion? They seem comparable so need someone to break the tie. I'm going to be using them for DJing and just listening to music.

Thanks for the help.

Between those particular models I would go with the MDR-V700s. They were the staple headphone for years and still one of my all time favourites.

Sony, however for the same price you can get the xone xd40's. much better.

Sony MDR-7506s. My favorites - often used by studio engineers... and you can get 'em for less than $100 these days.

If you are playing a huge super club with an 20" speaker... for home use and most small venue uses, I think the V700s are bit overkill.

I really liked my v700's until the swivel broke! I replaced them with the senhieser hd 205 II's. They are great sounding and under $100 and have a different swivel mechanism than most traditional cans. The only drawback IMO is the non coiled cord. I got tangled in the cord too many times during my last gig.

The swivels will break after about a year of heavy use. I wouldn't recommend them.

I concur:tup: I have the sony's and they will break no matter how gentle you are with them.

I know a number of people who have had the padding material deteriorate before the swivels gave way. Although I have broken a couple pairs of 700s I have also had a pair last for years and I have broken other headphones as well. The 700s are not especially weak, the swivel in any pair of headphones is a weak point.

Disclaimer: I haven't used 700s in years and use Senheisser HD 25s at the moment so I am not a "Sony fanboy" nor am I defending my own headphones since I don't use them anymore, just not a fan of the "Sony 700s break just by you looking at them" misconception.

Mine are close to 10 years old and still kickin'... padding has had to be replaced a few times though. But, I prefer the 7506s much much much more. So light, comfy and clean sounding.

The Pioneer HD-2000s or whatever sound fantastic, I just would not spend that sort of loot on headphones unless they were dope IEMs.

In my experience the Sony's do not stand up to DJ use, Sennheiser's do.

Had 700's, they broke within a few months of ****** use, not even playing. The Sennies sound fantastic, have great isolation and laugh at abuse.

Sennheisers all the way. MDR-v700s sound like crap. HD280s don't.
