I've bought a new light the chauvet radius 2.0! Do I need to run it off a dmx controller? I've never used a lights controller before! So what's a good one to go for if I need one, what will do the job? Thanks.

Hmm, with all due respect, have you looked at the manual at all? There is a ton of info there on how you are able to operate the light:

Read first (manual, lighting sticky, search the forum) then ask questions. Go have fun with your light!!

Well, to answer your question RESPECTFULLY. The quick answer is no. You don't need a controller if you don't want to use one. You can just use the preprogramed shows. BUT if you want to use that light (and other DMX lights) in a whole new (and cool) way, you can get a Chauvet obey 40. That cost about $120. Although using a controller is pretty complicationt since you don't know much about it. But once you get the hang of it, it's not all that bad. Reading the manuals is the big one..

It looks like Chauvet's version of the ADJ Dekker LED. Nice purchase. Plug it in and put on sound active or buy this:

the low cost 3 channel DMX controller that you can use to manually strobe, change colors, have on standby--black
and turn it on instantly instead of waiting for it to warm up. Works on sound active too if youre too busy mixing to screw with the light.

That is completely wrong, do not buy this controller. This isn't a 3 channel DMX controller for any light, it's a DMX controller designed specifically for Chauvet RGB LED wash and uplights.

An Obey 40 would be an alright starter controller.
