Im not a gear whore and frankly dont care much about gear. Im a full time club dj and play out around 6 days a week. Im somewhat of a pioneer fan boy as this is the usual gear we use over here.
Ive used the same home setup for the last 6 years. I have a set of cdj800 mk2 and had a el cheapo behringer mixer. It was ok for a home setup as i simply used it to practice stuff before going to work. In all honesty, I dont touch my gear too often, as I spend most of my free time sorting music playlists in rekordbox. Oh yeah, i forgot to say tht im not a digital dj and use cdj 900 or 2000 with usb almost elusively.
So previously we used cds and i have a bog collection of cds for club use. These days we use usb and so there is no need for me to burn cds anymore. I live in Shenzhen, a city on the border of Hong Kong and China, and almost every single club here is equipped with decent gear. If it doesnt have, its cheap to rent and the club will take care of it, so djs dont really need to bring their own gear as you do in the US.
I got tired of burning cds and ive been looking for a new mixer for a while. Luck had it, that my behringer mixer staryed having some issues, and I was in the market for something new. Long story short, friends suggested me to start using traktor and eventually directed me towards this voxoa mixer. TO be open with you all, the main dealer here is a good friend of mine, and he is one of the djs over here which i respect the most. He gave me a really good price on this mixer (even cheaper than the djm250) which suited me well.
Its a digital mixer and I could install traktor to work with it (without having to use the sound card - although I do have a sound card here). I installed traktor and imported the mapping for the mixer and off I went.
Im no pro on traktor yet, but Im getting there. Im using my cdj in timecode mode with this mixer, but I dont even really need the cdjs. This mixer is awesome, I can change from timecode to @normal@ with a turn of a knob so i can play cds and use traktor if i need.
Anyway im not a tech guy and not really good with words, but I must say Im impressed with this mixer. If you dont need a digital mixer, its perfect as it has a filter on each channel (like the djm 250) and plenty of space around the cross fader which means its good for battle djs.
If you have time, check it out. here is a picture of it taken with my phone. You can see the maya sound card in the back - i used that for recording when i used the brhinger mixer, but i actually have NO use for that anymore as this mixer has a built in sound card and you can configure it to record (although Im not sure how to do it yet).
