Hey

I have the cdj 1000s mk3, I'm half tempted to get rid of them and buy the 850s or 900s,whats the differences between the 2 players?

On the other hand I could just go digital, S2 is on sale at the mo, tempting alright

what would u do?

thanks

I would just keep the 1000s and use SD cards. The main differences between the 900 and 850 would be the link capability on the 900 as well as slip mode on the 900.

First, I would look at the spec sheets of the 900/850 and compare them.

Second, I would elaborate on when/where I DJ and for what purpose (bedroom, club, wedding, etc.).

Do you like using a computer and you aware of its advantages and disadvantages?
Yes, go digital!
No, keep cdj's

Are you tired of using CD's with your CDJ's?
No, keep your 1000's
Yes, upgrade to 850 or 900

And now just compare specs and see if 900's are worth the extra cash.

I'd keep the CDJ-1000s, download recordbox, and use it if I played out on CDJ-2000s (because USB w/o cover art browsing isn't better than CD wallets).

Thank you for doing literally no research before creating this topic.

I've never actually used the SD slots on the 1000s. Can I use them like I would with a USB? and just put a few 100 tracks on them?

I'm a bedroom DJ but I want to get out and play a few gigs in the future.

If that's your situation, there's no reason to upgrade to worse-feeling players that cost more.

I agree up until right there, because I think the 900s are smooth as silk. After playing on Finnish Fox' for an hour or 2, I was very impressed at the feel.

They've got some cool features, but I just don't think they feel better than CDJ-1000mk2/3 if they're in good shape. And they don't have cover art (like the CDJ-2000 does) which basically means that I wouldn't be able to organize tracks and would either be using CDs or Serato just for that. So…yeah…that's where that comes from.

^ this.

I had 850's and was SERIOUSLY dissapointed. Everyone raved about pioneer 'quality'... They felt like shitty plastic toys. 1000's are quality. If you're goin anywhere from there it should be digital. I've switched back to traktor until pioneer releases quality gear again.

I love the 900's - LINK, rekordbox, quantized, loops, slip-mode.

@ mostapha : sometimes i just have my MacBook connected to them, just to be able to view the covers. just depends on your needs; do you have to have cover art. track names can be fine for most.

Nope. They're for saving cue and loop points only.

so how does it work? u make a loop on the fly, adjust it then save it onto the SD card?

USB and Quantized is the reason I would upgrade :)

Anything saved as a hot cue or hot loop automatically goes to the SD card. It also saves the track overviews. The CDJ-1000 has no internal storage.

compared to other gear/older players yeah, the 850's felt cheap. Not that they would actually break down, but it felt like it wouldn't take much to.

It's really just the jog wheels. The 1000 and 2000 series jog wheels feel fine. Everything else they make……there are controllers that feel better…for a lot less money. I'm not a fan of any of their pitch faders, but that just means that I pitchbend instead of riding the pitch on CDJs.

CDJ-2000s are the only players I'd pick over a good controller. But I still wouldn't pick them over turntables + SSL or TSD/P for owning at home.

Just get SSL and use it with your 1000s

For me the CDJ2000s feel too slippery. When your hands are sweaty they become pretty hard to try to scratch with... but oh well if you want to scratch might as well do so with 1200s..
and wtf is this that use an SD card with CDJ1000s? I swear some people just like posting irrelevant/false info

So an 850 added to a set up that includes 2 technics 1200s all connected to an SL 3 system is an ok idea? Or no? I just want that 3 rd deck option when I feel more creative.....sorry to hi jack the thread....didn't want to start a whole new topic.
