View Full Version : Possibly getting TTs, but is this deal too good to be true?

Hey guys, I've found a guy on Craigslist who is willing to let two Gemini PT-1000 direct drive turntables go for $150. This seems pretty cheap, especially for 2. Does anybody know anything about these decks? I can't find many in-depth reviews on them. They look like a Techs 1200 knockoff and I've seen a few positive (albeit vague) reviews on them. I would be using them for DVS with TSP2. I don't do a lot of scratching (at least right now), but I feel it's important to start learning how to use turntables. Would these be a good foot in the door?

I have not seen them, but judging by Gemini's track record, I can believe they are that cheap.

If you don't find what you are looking for, I can offer you a pair of Numark TT-1s for $150/pair.

The older Gemini's were not too bad. As I had noted prior, my friend has had his PT2000s for about 12 years now.

I've heard them quoted as being called the "poor man's technics." Did they go down in quality from MK1 to MK2?

I meant in comparison to their newer TT- series.

The PT-1000s were the first decks I bought way back in 1997. I paid $500 dollars for the pair. They were awful. I wish I could go back in time, and instead, spend that $500 on a single Technics 1200 (which was the price of one at the time). As soon as I upgraded to my 1200 M3Ds, I realized that the Geminis were a complete rip-off. 14 years later and my Technics are still holding strong. Don't waste even a penny on them (Geminis), unless you're are using them to simply play a record with. They are in no way suitable for DJing. Save up and grab some used Technics. You won't be sorry. If you have any intention on learning scratching, or even the simplest of turntablist techniques, the Geminis will simply hinder your learning experience, and frustrate you to no end.
