Balut is amazing. Gotta sip that warm emniotic fluid first. Then close your eyes when it's time to bite into that furry and crunchy yet tough boiled egg. Just pile on the salt for each bite.

What's going on guys. From Toronto. Went to college for a few years in Iloilo. I'm heading back next April for my girlfriends cousins wedding. It's going to be in Iloilo which is cool because I have family there.

Was wondering if there's a place I can rent a couple of 1200s, a good 2ch mixer or 800 and a couple of speakers. I might dj for the wedding and will only do it if I can rent this down there. Like is there a music store chain that specializes in instrument and dj equipment rentals?
Haven't been back since I left in 2001.

Hey! I'm from Manila but a frequent flyer to Bacolod. Sometimes I take an hour and thirty minutes boat trip to Iloilo. I also have DJ friends there whom I have refurbished their decks and some bought 1200s from me. PM me once you arrive in the country and I'll hook you up with those guys. I'm sure they'll be willing to help you out.

Yo whats going on... So update... I'm heading to the PI on March 29-April 19. Going to be in Iloilo from April 7-14th. Have a wedding to go to on the Saturday. Whats funny is a friend of mine who owns a restaurant by my old college (St.Pauls) owns a club in 'Smallville' called GLounge. And from what I've read on the internet its probably one of the best clubs in Iloilo. I'm trying to set up a party for me to DJ hopefully on a Thursday or Friday. But from the looks of it he has CDJ800/1000's setup with a Pioneer DJM800. Its a decent setup but I would really like to use a couple 1200s. I haven't heard from him yet but if I do need 12's I'm surely going to hit you up.
So fucking excited. Can't wait to rock the crowds there.

Whats going on guys, specifically nicadraus. I want to thank you for hooking me up with your boy here in Iloilo. He came to my hotel last night to drop of his 12's and his djm600 for me to use tonight. I'm glad that I was able to connect with you and him.
So tonight is my gig at GLounge Iloilo. Theres a fucking tarp up in front of the club advertising my gig tonight. I can't wait! I was talking to the resident dj about the goings on in the club itself and it seems like your typical Filipino club... ie. lots of house/edm/top40. My friend who owns the club wanted me to play hiphop and R&B which is something I love to do. But according to the resident dj the club is frequented by 18,19,20 yr olds. And that I should kinda stick to more top40 hiphop and R&B. He was telling me a dj from Jersey was spinning last week and promised that type of music but ended up more of a 80's & 90's R&B dj and cleared the floor for 2 nights, ouch.
Ever since I got here to the PI I've been kinda worried but have been preparing my crates with mostly top40 HH,R&B and assume to play that Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa etc... But because I am the DJ I hope to bring some harder hiphop (mind you not too much). And from what I've heard on the radio theres been a lot of hype around Baaure and Harlem shake, which is cool because I've been on that Trap(more hiphop influenced). Hopefully I can parlay that and get the crowd hype when it's time to drop some prime time music. And whats even better is that the resident will be opening for me :D
I keep on getting asked if I have a residency and what not, which I don't as DJ'ing for me and most people is a side gig. I can see the scepticism in them but I'm ready to take them on.

Nicadraus, thanks again bro, Mark has been cool and has really hooked me up, or else I'd be on a pair of CDJ350s and an unknown American DJ mixer.

Wish me luck guys on my gig tonight! I have a feeling its been hyped a lot more than it will be.

That's good to hear. Mark is a very good and close friend of mine. We see each other whenever I'm in IloIlo and Bacolod (an hour away speeadcraft boat away from Iloilo).

By the way, how did the gig go?

Well, it was alright. It turned out to be a fist pumping fest as I expected. Even though the owner wanted me to spin hiphop and R&B I was pressured into playing pop/edm stuff to appease the crowd. I started off with familiar, older, hiphop/R&B but was told to pick up the pace and eventually off to pop tracks. The resident DJ was happy with my performance as he said the week before they hired an out of town DJ who just stuck to his guns and pretty much cleared out the club. I didn't want to do that and as a DJ had to play for the crowd, i.e..18,19,20 yr olds. Luckily I'm not a DJ who's stuck on one genre and had an arsenal ready to make the kids happy.
But a few things I noticed with the local/resident dj's
1. Virtual DJ is pretty popular there in Iloilo as I've seen more than 2 different DJ's using this program
2. The crowd/DJ are really into low/high bpm tracks/mixes/edits... I was saying to myself 'where the hell did you get that from?' constantly. Like pop hiphop tracks that turned into faster paced edm then would slow down and then build up again to dance. Like 90% of the tracks were like that.
3. I was considered old school because I used 1200's. But that the DJ's at that particular club were really into the controllers (Hercules Remix & Pioneer DDJ Ergo) but the resident called them 'Noobish' but he himself was using it.
4. Sync was used heavily by them, but they did a good job at keeping the crowd engaged.
5. The club was called GLounge.... as in there were quite a few 'baklas' at this place making my fiancee a little uncomfortable at times lol

But all in all I was able to keep the crowd hype, did a trap set, and collabo'd with the resident by either scratching or going back and forth with the mixes. There were other issues that I had with my so called friend and co owner of the club who didn't show up that night. We had a deal that my entourages bill would be covered while I spun for free, which included me covering the rental costs of the 1200s/DJM600. The bill was minimal (3500PHP) which I ended up paying 2000, but it was the principal of it all.

Other than the night my trip back home was amazing. Went surfing in San Juan, La Union. Hit up Baguio for a day. Went mall hopping (more than a lot). And my Fiancee and I were able to get engagement photos done at Intramuros which pretty much highlighted the trip. My DJ experience would be 4th on the list but I guess I have that under my belt.
