Rules:
Time: 40 minutes, last mix in by 40 minute mark
Rules: Depends on if we do deep or psy/tech/breaks, but stick to whichever one we choose. Since this is a group of people, I think each one of us should also vote, you cannot vote for yourself. Since it may be hard with regards to giving feedback, I think each person needs to give feedback on their own mix. You have all been doing this long enough you should be able to do this without any issues. You can use CDJ/DVS/Vinyl/VirtualDJ/etc/don't care

Mix 1: Starts off with some beats and a darker mood techno track. First mix at around 5 min, sounded clean. Next track a little moodier. Next mix around 10 min, really let the first two tracks play out, in a short(er) mix I'm wondering if this will continue. Little more melodic now at about 18 min in, mixing has been tight all around. Mix at 22 especially nice I thought. These tracks are feeling very similar. Until a bit after 30 min, this one is different but that melody sounds really harsh now compared to everything else. The tune after is pretty nice, but probably the worst sounding mix of the set, however it's still not bad there was really good mixing throughout the entire mix.
Mix 2: Very soft opening. Mixing was okay into the second tune, really like this song. Both of these mixing are very beatless if you get what I mean. I don't think this techno tune at 18ish really fits in well with the set so far it was pretty melodic and now this, the tune after goes very well though. Felt like there was a lot of tunes in this mix and a lot of quick mixing. Perhaps as a result the mixing didn't feel as quality as mix 1. It was nice to here a variety of tunes.
Mix 3: Sort of a slightly funky tech tune to start things off. Well I thought it was but then it turned into trance lol. Wasn't really expecting much melody by those into beats. Sounds like a breakdown/breakdown mix at 6.30, goes over pretty well, just as long as that doesn't happen every mix. Like the little vocal "like a star". Mix at about 10 min sounded very good. Ahh I thought this track was very interesting but you only like a couple minutes of it haha, felt like the energy dipped a bit into that Andrew Bayer remix. Mix out was fine but seemed the vol dropped a bit. Liked the mix at 26.30, and that tune. Mix out after 31 mins sounded good. Ending on a exciting vocal tune but not too overpowering, good balance I think .
Mix 4: Starts out with a bit of ambiance. Beat takes awhile to kick in, not till almost 4 minutes in! First mix starts at about 6 min, not quite as clean as Mix 1 but still on point. Slower tempo here than the previous mixes. Next tune coming in around late in 10 min. Some cool stereo effects and different track structures than the other mixes. Sounds like a breakdown/breakdown mix at 17 min, outgoing tune seems to end a bit abruptly. Track picking up some tempo here in the middle part of the mix. Mix around 25 min is interesting some very similar elements in the tracks. This track really picks up pace during the breakdown at 28 min, feels a little too fast now. Last mix sounded okay. Song sort of skipped there at 31 min. Another mix ending on a vocal tune, kinda cheesy at that too, not sure it felts too well with the deeper earlier tracks.

I'll get to these on Sunday gentlemen. Really excited to hear what you guys put together. Are we voting for a mix that isn't our own?

#1: Nice deep wibe in beginning and it really drag me into it right from the start. No quick mixing what is good IMO in this kind of music. Nice smooth transitions and little change in style in about 22min mark. Continued almost all the way to the end but I have to agree with Delta on this. Last two tracks didn't quite fit to the progression of this mix. But I really enjoyed this one. Very easy to just jump in to this mix. Good job!
#2: Well, I don't really know what to say about this. There was definitely nice tracks and good variety of styles but I just didn't find that "thing" from it (compared to #1). Mixing was good, although I think that not as tight as it was in #1.
Not saying that I could to any better, hell no! Not even close. But after #1 this didn't feel as good.
#3 Wow! This mix just really hit the spot! I could easily think that I would hear this set at afterparty on a beach. And just before the sunrise some guy steps on to the dj booth and spins this!
Great progression and flawless mixing! This is now my favorite of these 3 but one to go..
#4 i think that this was most "deepest" of these 4 and there certainly was a red stripe in it. First half of this mix was from cd's and second half from vinyl? Big up for that!
It started nice but kind of slipped too deep on halfway on my taste. Liked that last tune but that didn't save it from that "sleepy" part. Nice, quality mix and i think that most variety of the 4.
Allthoug somebody might give me a lesson of music genres, i go for mix #3 on this. It was almost trance to my ears but certainly it was deep and i got my feet tapped most. It's hard to decide from 4 high quality mixes when this isn't really my genre.

Very difficult to judge this battle, all 4 quality mixes and all I can really go on is my personal preference.
I streamed all 4 in the order posted in one go last weekend and decided that two mixes stood out for me.
Mix 1 and 4 are my favorites and will need a second round of more careful listening. They're now downloaded to my ipod. Will try to make some notes and add more comments as soon as I finish listening...
Mix 4
Starts out really well, great choice as the start of an interstellar journey. Track ID please?
As I don't know any of the tracks, this is more about the emotions/pleasure they gave me and how the beautifully layered sounds of each song drew me deeper into outer space... Until the cheesy vocal track comes up at around 20 minutes, why? It didn't fit into an otherwise seamless trip
After that interruption, the songs are back to the earlier theme, but the damage is done.
The crackling in the second part of the mix is very distracting, now that I have headphones on, it's much more noticeable than during the first listen. The harder, less flowing two tracks starting around the 30 minute mark are just not my thing, and the transition between them sounded wrong to me too. Urgh, the crackle... And a skip... And a pop... Another track with forced cheesy vocals, "where is my happy ending, where have are all the cowboys gone" whut, reeely? Now I'm almost expecting kaskade next... ...and that's not a good thing! An absolutely great start, but no happy ending here: on to mix 1...
Mix 1 got my vote
Deep and driving start, nice followup: thumping bass FTW! This is the type of music that makes my right foot heavy on the Autobahn, shit... 220Km/h again?
Switching out the puny ipod buds, which I'd already jammed sideways, for the Denon... Top notch everything so far!
Silky smooth transitions, especially the one going into the more spacy arpeggio track at 14-15min
Found myself air drumming at 18:46
Wow indeed at 23:10!
The rest of the mix stays at comparable high energy and class throughout! I suspect this is a set that you play regularly, well done!
Oh, and thank you both for helping me finish folding my laundry - I guess I needed the extra energy boost you provided with these great mixes!

going just by the rules the only mix that was within the Deep Prog/techno realm was mix 2. It had a clash of melodies in a first transition and the one around 30-31 min mark but other then that mix was ok.
Mix 1 and 3 were pretty mich trance so that disqualified the right away.
Mix 4 started awesome with some early 90's trance/techno and had everything going on for it in the first half. In the second half it wondered into trance direction and ended up like mixes 1 and 3. I really, really wanted to vote for it because of the first half but my vote will have to go for mix 2.
If this was a trance battle I might have voted differently. God mixes overall but I wish you guys stick to the rules

I don't think we were necessarily sticking to one exact genre.
Just play deep and proggy. Whatever genre, deep and proggy.
This is kind of where we left it off...

I thought it was Deep Prog/techno Battle, at least that is what the title says
my bad but maybe the rules were not stated clear enough. But even with that deep and progressive doesn't mean euphoric trance :P

If my mix doesn't qualify as "deep and proggy" then I simply don't know what music is anymore.
Can we get an edit on the thread to say "deep progressive battle?" Not voting for mixes based on wording technicalities is a little lame.

I do not know whose mix is whose and this is just one vote. As of now it is not even changing anything because mix 1 still is in the lead.
However I do know what is deep progressive and if I find time I will upload you my old mix from about 10 years ago that is exactly that. What Beatport labels as progressive nowadays is a joke. It has nothing to do with deep progressive.
With that said IMHO I think that mix 2 has that deep progressive feeling and I stay behind my vote

here is an example of a deep progressive tecky mix
now you tell me which one of your mixes fit that classification
I am not trying to be a prick but teach you guys

Oh, you're "teaching" us.
seeing as there are 10 years of evolution between the mix you posted mixes we have, I would say that there are still striking similarities between the mix you posted and some of the mixes above (maybe not mix 3, & I haven't listened to mix 4, but 1&2 absolutely apply to the deep in progressive that you're talking about).
any other lessons for the day?

Don't do battles if you are not ready to be judged. What you call "evolution" is people not knowing their genres. You guys agreed on rules that you made. I did not picked them up for you...but like I said earlier it is just one vote and it is not changing anything at this moment.

Mix 1: Had a bit of a tribal feel to me at the beginning. Mixing was spot on with only one mix that I "noticed" out of the entire set. Definitely not what I was expecting from the mix and had a great flow throughout. Track around 23 sounds familiar to a more commercial track, can't quite place it at the moment. Changed a bit towards the end of the mix but overall, great mix in my opinion.
Mix 2: Liking the intro more than Mix 1. This track almost has a slight psy sound to it. First mix seems like long blend around 6:30 mark. Incoming track seemed a bit louder. Really enjoying this second tune. Has me bobbing my head. I'm enjoying the flow of this so far. Creative mix into the next track there. Really enjoyed this. More my style and more of what I think of when I think deep and progressive :p
Mix 3: At first didn't think it was going to be much of an intro with beats going right away. The chant sounded nice. First mix is a off key. Not terribly noticeable. Wasn't a huge fan of the breakdown on breakdown mix. Should have left that second track going for a little while into third mix. Loved the mix at ~27 minutes. Last mix sounded like it lost some volume. Overall, well done mix. As DJ Difficult said above, this is exactly what I expect to hear into the wee hours of the morning.
After listening to all these, I definitely need to do some more digging for deep progressive stuff. Thanks for the schooling lesson gentlemen. :school:

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to DJ Difficult again.

Im really struggling to get time for this, Ive got so much on atm. I didnt even get a chance to put a new mix together for this battle, I probably shouldn't have agreed to do it as I really don't think I will get time to review you guys sets, so I apologize in advance if I don't get around to feedback,
