Hi, I have a 1500 dollar budget for lights. I play mostly at local clubs which don't provide their own lighting. I was thinking about getting a couple chauvet dmx lights, a martin atomic 3000 strobe light, a chauvet dmx 50 controller, and a laser of some sort. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate them greatly.

If you live in the USA call Metro DJ's at (845) 624-4400. its a huge music and DJ Equipment retail store and Installation company.
He can hook you up with some sweet prices and some good lights.

Definately go with the DMX lighting as you've got more scope to expand your rig at a later date

yeah, thats my thinking also. I really don't kno if I want to invest in a good laser at this point tho, it just seems like too much money.

I'd leave the laser for the time being, we still don't even use lasers at the club but no-one really notices. Thing is if your doing mobile work you want effects that give off ample lighting to light up the entire venue, lasers just don't do that, your better off going for a few fixtures that have at least 250W lamps or better still discharge lamps (but these are much more pricey to replace).

are there any good dmx lights with discharge lamps that are reasonably priced?

Unfortunately discharge lamps are quite pricey, the cheapest discharge bulbs i've seen over here are about £80 each (ouch if you're on a tight budget) anyway, if thats a bit too expensive for you opt for a fixture with at least a 250W Halogen lamp minimum. That'll give you a fairly big amount of light.
Couple I can suggest are (if you like moonflower type effects) are the Chauvet Fascination, or if your more into intel's then go for something like the Nimbus/Geni Shiva, Acme spotknight or Acme Winner/Rover (barrel effects) Most of which cost between £200 - £300 each. Most are linkable but can be used with a DMX controller if you want to.
Hope this helps :)
