Thought I'd share, dude has a strong perspective on DJ Culture which I have to say I agree with.

But by no means would my crates even come close to his.

Mods considering the dude plays virtually every genre I didn't want to post up in the 'hip hop' section. Plus I thought everyone should peep it
and it would interesting to get some perspective from the other Deejays.

I agree with alot of he says except that everyone having same record is bad thing. I don't see that a bad thing so what if everybody say"I believe In Miracles" in digital crates. There plenty of quality music out there you just have dig for it like this:

Hesaxgon ft. Savant,Mega Ran & Phil Harmonic - Just Wanna Know (Remix) (http://hexsagon.bandcamp.com/album/savant-x-random-x-phil-harmonic-just-wanna-know-remix)

I understand what he saying just search Mixcrate for 90's hip hop and nearly every mix has the same tracklist, the radio hits between 91- 97. That's why I created True School Beatdown series to show younger cats you can make a Hip hop mix that doesn't include top40,autotune or solely made of 90's radio hits. DJ BB Famous and DJ Soul Catcher are the only onesout there who can make 90's Hip Hop mix not made solely of radio hits, sadly.

One thing I vehemently disagree with is his statement "came up with the style called mash Up" (5:10). That is utter bullshit!! I was doing blends or mash ups back in 80's as were many deejays. DJ Jam, Mix Mechanic aka Blend Daddy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4Oyk4DWw_Q) (He was doing these mixes back in 80's!), Jazzy Jim,DJ Juanito (DJ Efx) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12_GDdd51TU),Tony G and even DJ Yella & Dr Dre there was even records released back in mid 80's like this:

:lol::lol::lol:

I read an article from Rob Swift when he rolled down to Fat Records NYC and he had just found out they were closing shop. He said something along the lines of... "I remember saving up all his cash then heading to the record store to find that one record, picking it up discussing it with the owner rushing home to chuck it on and listen to that break he'd been looking for. People these days have access to music but they don't experience music"

Thanks for the share, one of my fav DJs out is actually a Cali cat that I've been following is DJ Mane One. Dope Hip hop DJ his mix tapes he mainly sticks to classic OG Funk. The thing is if he wasn't playing that at Funk venue just a generic hip hop Club cats would have no idea whats up.

On the everyone having the same shit I agree with youyou just need to dig deeper. Plus I think having the mentality only I 'should' have access to something is elitist and bullshit in way. Why be a DJ and play that tune for others then? But 'wanting' to be a dude that has the dope tunes nobody else has is another thing and that's what keeps you digging.

I know Mane I always post his mixes on my site. He's one of the few deejays out there who never sold out and still impresses me mixwise.

Mane is dope man, I love his steez. The thing I don't understand is why isn't he DJing more often at BBoy Jams. I mean there's a few dudes touring the international circuit and I'm pretty certain Mane would school a lot of these cats. Even in Cali at the major BBoy Jams I don't see Mane's name on the bill =/

DJ P is on point with a lot of what he is saying here. Problem is, that ship has sailed...and it ain't ever coming back.

Mane doesn't travel much he mostly stays in San Diego. I guess being a big fish in small pond is better than being small fish in a big pond. I don't even think Mane plays in LA much and that's just an hour away.

DJ P is dope as fuck i like that maw fucka. hes just a chill ass dude. keeps it 100.

i totally agree with what hes saying about taking djs business away but then i read some comment that was like "why you complaining about getting your job taking away when your job took away bands jobs back in the day"

Which made me go :uhoh:

but yeah still my thoughts is fuck the new technology

but on some real shit i prefer 2 turntables + mixer as the main set up. the only reason i would use serato is simply for the ability to store a shitload of music. ill admit though id probably use the effects and looping abilities within serato but i wouldnt be doing anything that i could just sequence in a daw.

lets keep it 100 guys we havnt talked about turntablism in a minute.

that shit died with the custom vinyl take over

my thoughts is it aint broke, dont fix it, and if youre going to improve on something and make it more efficient dont sacrifice the fun parts.

Incredibly honest interview. DJ P is always good for getting straight to the point.

ps, I never though I'd see the day where DJ P sells his vinyl.

I doubt he'll sell all of it. I'm certain he'll keep the gems, I mean he's in record store doing that interview buying vinyl lol. But then again gys like P have crates for days. So he'll most likely sell the generic hip hop/party tunes which probably consists of majority of the collection and keep the expensive records or Auction em off for the right price.

kinda surprised with the falling out with z trip.

I'm not even though I never heard anybody say anything bad about Ztrip. After Uneasy Listening blow up Z Trip rode the wave of fame but DJ P for some reason was forgotten. You have admit "Ztrip" is better name for marketing than "DJ P". Although DJ P is in Rock Steady Crew he never got the recognition he deserved and I think P would not follow trends to rock a crowd like Z trip does. Seriously its been long while since Z trip has made a good mix. He has mad skills but truth he sold out.....playing electro tunes or the masses.

The last dope mix I've herd Z.Trip do was live at future primitive sounds alongside DJ Radar though I stopped following Z.Trip after he released his first album which I thought was good.

But P is on a another level with his mashups.
