View Full Version : calling out: driving techno

calling out for a driving techno mix. driving techno is what I'd call the stuff in between the fast super ravey techno (>130bpm) and the slower dark techno (~125bpm), usually around 128 bpm. stuff that really moves forward, good for driving.. or running... or :banana::badger::fap::eek3dance: :P

rules:
- ~30min
- 2 decks
- no sync

Consider me on the fence for this. When I get home I'm going to look at what I've got going on.

Im into this. Will get a mix I done this weekend for sure. Filters and effects ok? How about loops (mixer loops rather than 3rd deck loops).

Can't wait to judge this one. This is my jam. I would contend, but am in between gear. (well have a vci300mk2 and a ddj-sx on the way, but damn i miss my 2k setup.) Regardless I will be a judge.

aight, well lets make submit date monday, gives everybody the weekend to record. does everyone want to push it to 45min to give some breathing room for tracks?

xs2man
06-21-2013, 02:30 PM
I'm happy with that. My last mix was a little quickfire.

hoff
06-21-2013, 02:33 PM
aight good luck boys. mixes in monday, same rules as first post but definitely up to around 45 min.

Four guys at around 45 mins each is quite a bit to listen to, might not get much listens this way. If it were up to me I'd say somewhere around the 30 minute mark per mix but again it's not my decision.

This. Two djs. 30 minutes. IMO, that's the way to get listens/votes. You never saw more than two in a battle on 1.0, unless it was a tournament, and even then it was done in brackets. If you have four guys, do it in rounds, or make two separate battles. Just my $.02.

honestly, what's the difference. my last battle got 5 votes total. we're doing this for fun, not nearly as many people on here listen to the more underground genres anyway. i just wanna hear what other people can produce and how i stack up.. even if its just my personal opinion. i dunno, how does everyone else feel?

Hausgeist
06-21-2013, 06:35 PM
Of course it's for fun, but you know it's the whole "the more the merrier" thing. The difference to me, is I would listen to an hour worth of mixes and vote. Three hours is too much. I am not trying to be argumentative. It's just a thought.

BTW, I was one of the five votes in your last battle. You know why? Because it was an "undergound" genre I like, and there were only two mixes. :D

Baller95
06-21-2013, 06:46 PM
Your last battle was 2 people at 30 mins each. This battle is going to be over twice that man.

I think I'm going to bow out. I already have a 3 electro house mix to make....and Haus makes a VERY good point.

hoff
06-21-2013, 06:59 PM
oh im not saying more is better at all, i completely agree.. im just saying, a 2x 30min mix battle only got 5 votes anyway, so no matter what it's gunna be a low turnout.

i used to say no to more than 2 for the reasons you mention, but over the course of a few battles ive realized not many people vote anyway.. well at least not the battles i call out, which typically are a bit more specific/abstract.

Hausgeist
06-21-2013, 07:04 PM
Oh, see when I said "the more the merrier", I meant as in more potential votes/listeners by having only two mixes. I dunno. Well, I know I would vote on two way battles that interest me.

I listened to 2 battles today alone.... only to realize they had both already been closed for voting. Maybe if they were kept open a little longer you'd get a better turnout?
No loss for the contestants though today, my opinion/critique aint worth

Nice,

I do kinda have to agree though, 4 x 45 minute mixes means around 3 hours of listening for voting purposes. I have enough problems getting people to listen to 30 minute mixes, lol. Even if we were to split it into a tournament, it's still 3 hours. It is a pretty big ask.

I'll bow out of this one too, to try to let this battle get more votes.

Doug, if your interested, we could battle in a week or so? Give you some time to sort out your Electro mixes, and let this battle get a decent shot of garnering some votes. We could even change the genre a little to separate it from here if you want?

06-22-2013, 10:41 AM
Yeah, we could do that up. I might be switching up my setup in about that time too :D Break it all in and such.

I'll make a call-out thread when the time comes :P

For those who can't wait though, here is the mix I would have uploaded had I not pulled out, lol. (I will do a fresh one for the Doug More battle)...

That's me just done mine. Bit pathetic I think to be honest, but hey ho haha. Not being able to press sync really limited me with those tiny pitch faders. Definitely gave me less to be inventive and probably more sucky.

....and please don't get antsy on me for pressing a button, it just suits me more to what I like to do :)
