Hi guys. I am trying to be a mobile dj, mostly just doing weddings. So far I have a very nice sound system but a not so good light show. I only have 3 lighs and a stand. Is it a big deal to not have a light show at a wedding? I have a mirror ball for slow songs, will that do, or do most people want lights? I'm broke right now so I can't buy any for awhile..

From my personal expirience, customers usually DON'T want to pay extra for lighting. I eneded up selling what I had in lighting and don't offer any. Think of it this way. Lets say you have a $1,000. worth of effects and you tell the customer it's a $100. more. They are usually going to say, A, that should be included, or B, no thanks. Then what, your lighting rig is sitting at home without making any money.

just add the $100 to the price in the first place :)

Thats a good point. I didn't think about charging extra for lighting. I'm sure most would not want to pay more for all that..

I'm not a wedding dj, but I've attended enough weddings to have observed that lighting, if any, is always very minimal.

Mood lighting? Yeah. Light show? Nope.

For weddings you probably just fine with a mirrorball or maybe just a slow moving mushroom effect(s).

If you do any other stuff like parties for the younger generation then you'll need lighting and lots of it. People do actually pay attention to lighting and they get bored with stuff that looks too samey :)

Thank you for your help guys. I just want to spend money I don't have on lights right now if I don't really need them. I will eventually though.
