So you've read the threads on how to start (http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?646-Sigma-s-n00bs-guide-to-DJing-right). You've purchased your first setup. You've bought some tracks to mix. You've chosen a DJ Name (http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?844-The-Official-DJ-Name-Thread). You've begun to practice regularly and you swear that your beatmatching is on-point. So NOW what???

I say that NOW you're ready for the Real Deal. Now that you've STARTED, you're ready to GROW... Here's the next step:

RECORD and EVALUATE your mixes
Learn how to record your mixes. Listen to them and note how you can improve.

If/when you can't hear anything wrong, then post on DJF in the Mix Submissions thread (http://www.djforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?18-Mix-Submissions) and ask for feedback. You'll likely get great feedback from there.

Another way of getting feedback is posting the mix on SoundCloud (http://soundcloud.com), Mixcrate (http://mixcrate.com), Facebook (http://facebook.com), etc. It's really neat getting feedback from the web.

What's after that is up to you. You're on your way.

Great thread KLH, recording your mixes definitely helps you improve. I notice screw ups in my mixes that I never would have caught if I had not recorded the mix.

I can't second this motion enough. Recording, re-listening, and asking for feedback on my mixes has been a huge help with me. In that secondary stage now, and it's also fun to have a shit-ton of mixes to throw on in your car driving anywhere as well lol. It's been some of the best improvement I've been able to do, listening to other people tell me about parts I may have missed.

Also OT: Shiftee is going to be at The Drop in Cambridge, MA @ The Phoenix Landing this Sunday night as well. I'm always down there, but pumped for this performance :) Dub Police showed up last week (after Parallax and Mr. Matt aka Tremourz from Terravita/Hot Pink Delorean) and it was nutty. We'll def. have to have a Boston get together at some point :)

Yeah, echoing others, my recordings exposed how much I wasn't awesome when I thought that I was. Record and listen. Get others to evaluate. It's the real path to growth.

OT: Loving the Boston love. Once I get used to this snow and freezing weather, I'll venture out and hit you guys up!
