ive listed this a couple of times, gotten a few bites then decided not to sell. i absolutely love this mixer and its like selling a child.

however, i want a xone db4 badly.

i only have the one pic. if need be i can get more. last time i had it listed a question was raised if it was made in china or the uk. i was able to find the little tag on the back that said it was indeed made in the uk.

the only thing that would seperate this mixer from a near mint state would be one of the rotaries has a weeee bit less resistance than the other 3.

i bought it 2nd hand on ebay a few years back and its been a great mixer. ive never taken it anywhere. it has sat in my little "studio" room the entire time ive owned it.

from what i remember last time i had it listed i had a "money in hand" offer for $850. its been about a year so ill do it for $800. serious offers only guys.

IDK if that was actually me or not, but I wish I still had that money in hand.

Good luck, damon.

i remember you said you wanted it. i gave you tenative "dibs" and another member pm'd me saying he had money in hand. after you decided it wasnt for you at the time i used that as an excuse to keep it.

if a&h didnt make the db4 i wouldnt have any "need" to get rid of this mixer. i guess that one finally pushed me to make a move to something else.

Yeah…I still kind of want one (or at least a rotary of some kind…hi-mid eq a big plus). I just can't justify the expense right now to have a 92r as a bedroom mixer.

dude you remember i used to own the rotary 92 right? i sold it for an empath rotary, ALWAYS thought the 92 was head and shoulders above the rane and i still have the rane.

Really? The rane is pretty high on my list if I do upgrade. Any particular reason you thought the A&H was better (not to thread jack…might help you out).

it's just a better mixer straight up, it's not even that close imo. rane uses plastic knobs that feel kinda cheap imo.

Damon_Chambers

i highly doubt it. the faceplate is designed for a rotary. i dunno about the guts, but im sure its more than just a simple plug'n'play deal.

It wasn't a mod…they made a rotary version.

And rotaries are better.

Damon_Chambers

"better" being completely subjective. if you want to pop faders and make quick cuts then rotaries are not for you. if you do long transitions and focus on blending then rotaries are the absolute freaking shiz.

It has a crossfader. It can do both. I'll give you that it's more obtuse because of having to set the CF to do what you want, but it's CF assignment is pretty quick and straightforward.

Does it pop when you activate the CF for an open channel like the 62 did?

I know they did; 92 vs 92R. I was just wondering if it was possible.

ive never used a 62, so i cant really comment, and i very very rarely use the crossfader for anything. i never really have.

no sir.

Hey as a side note, how do you like that Nanokontrol? I was thinking of picking one up.

nanokontrol is cool... very slim profile. if you are looking for just a little bit of midi with a small footprint i would recommend one. my only complaint is the usb placement. it doesnt let you sit it flush against stuff. i dont use mine much anymore to be honest, but i do like it for what it is.

Is that a MOTU you have up there? How do you have your gear set up?

(Sorry for the off-topic post).

Damon_Chambers

thread derailed.

ya, motu ultralite mk2.

i had ableton live setup with 4 channels. 4 stereo audio outs from motu into all 4 channels on the mixer before i decided to go back to digital turntables. it worked really well and the sound quality was excellent, but it was a rats nest. now i just run live into one channel on the mixer for one shot samples and such.

I always wanted one, but had to settle for my DJM-800 Rotary. Now I am looking at the Sixty Eight, I want a 14" mixer with midi programmable buttons, and I haven't found a controller I liked. So I am considering the Denon 6000 or Rane Sixty Eight, but as someone who learned on a UREI in the 80's I will miss my rotaries... <sigh>

I think that's the main reason I haven't bought one……I honestly preferred my lpd8 set up as a very basic mixer to my xone:62. If I did buy a rotary…I'd never be able to go back.

I mean…I knew that the first time I even felt one of the 1620LEs, but……owning one would be different.

Would it be stupid to run a 1620(possibly LE) with an SSL + Maschine setup? Or awesome?

Damon_Chambers
03-02-2012, 08:17 AM
heck no, i think it'd be awesome.

before the db4 came out i was considering a rane 2016 plus cd decks and ableton live. the way i like stuff set up it would have been a wiring rats nest like what my setup is now. another reason why im looking forward to a mixer with a built in sound card.

Ahh…yeah. I've been a computer geek my whole life, so I just got used to the idea that snakes could easily hide basically anywhere in my room as long as they were black, white, or grey. If it bugs me, I'm just planning on making custom snakes for everything out of some half-assed combination of wiring, shrink wrap, solder-on ends, and gaff tape. But, I'd never be able to do that for my production rig (mostly because of oh so many damn USB cables) so, I just haven't bothered yet.
