Don't ask me if he is trusted, But I was surfing Ebay, Really I was looking for DMX Controller's, And ran over this guy..
All he sell's is laser's... However I don't know if they are worth it or not, I don't own one, Nor know or understand the spec's of a good one...
I just thought I would share my finding's with everyone, And if they are indeed good laser's, This could be a great buy for someone in the market for one! :)

I may be way off here but there's got to be a catch at those cheap prices. Obviously i'm not saying there stolen or anything like that but they seem too good to be true

They fell off the back of a truck :)
Just kidding
I would like to see what danks says.. see if it is true..
well i messed around with this thing all night and its not bad at all. however at only 5mw its really only effective in a small dark venue. im not complaining though considering the price. i still bring my stinger with me to the bigger parties.

I like the Stinger line. 5mw on those seems plenty bright to me, and you don't need an operating permit and can shoot it right over the audiences head without it having to be however many feet >5mw systems need to be. I always like it very dark with a hazer and some black light. The only other thing is the laser and very bright exit signs to appease the fire marshall. There's a cheap modified Amoeba that's available on the net, but doesn't do sky scan properly...more like that lame tunnel stuff.

I am selling a Stinger-MC (Multi color) for 1100$ retail is 1799$ it has been used for an hour...
Yea i love the stinger... Got a 40mw green one. but I must say the effects the rock star laser puts out is pretty impressive for its size and price...pretty bright for only a 5mw too. go to extremelasers.com and check out the little vid they got.

What'd you think of it? How was the sky scan? Can it do just yellow or just green?

It does Red, Yellow, and green, it also does a chase thing, where the laser appears as a dashed like of all three colors, the stingers are known for their great aerial effects.
and are designed for that only, if you look at it pointed at a wall it is retarded, because you are supposed to see it in mid air.. I used this one for an hour in a huge gym (It was completely dark though) and it was awesome, made it all the way to the back with no loss.
I only getting rid of it because I ordered a 150mW one..
Check it out here:

That looks great, small question though.
In the link you provided James is states the power source as LAD, now i'm assuming that's the laser type. What is it, coz I hav'nt got a clue. It's just got me curious.

Yeah, now you got me looking, The laser type(s) are Solid State Red, and DPSS YOV4
And it mixes red-green to make the yellow, I went and got the boxes for both my stingers and LAD seems to stand for "Laser aerial device"
All I can find on that one.

Thanks James, that makes sense. I thought from the way it was worded in the advert it looked like a laser type, but that makes sense, damn manufacturers don't ever put things in laymans terms, it's OK if everone reading it is a professional lighting installer but for the rest of us it leads to utter confusion does'nt it. :)

Exactly, maybe they need to hire a real person, instead of a techie to write their copy :)

But if you just want it to be green for a while doing a horizontal 90 degree sky scan bobbing up and down gently to the beat right above their heads (arms length so their hands barely touch the beam spread), can it do that? I'm worried about getting a more powerful laser because they have to be like 15ft in the air and you can't actually beam anything at the audience (unless you want to get fined or sued). I don't like wall effects. Air effects only for me.

Yep, you can't do that with anything over 5mW your alternative: (This is what I will do when I get to use my 100mW for the first time) I have a 4.95 Green, I will have that one touchable, and the 100mW the required 3M above the tallest head.
The fine is 30K or 300K not sure which if you operate without the variance, and after seing the 100mW in the garage, it almost blinded me there just from refraction beams.

Well, getting a good lighting rig just takes time to get it right (and $$$), I used to use lots of second hand lighting gear at first, then built up my new stuff over a number of years as and when I could afford to. I'd love to buy loads of lasers and more scanners but it looks like i'll be steering away from the mobile stuff for a while to concentrate on the club.

Well, I don't want to stay in the mobile business forever, My goal is to get in a club, However not many club's around me, So when I do find one, I'll have alot of driving to do, But it would all be worth it...
At least I would have a JOB, Not just job's whenever the phone ring's.
I wouldn't stop mobile DJ-ing, Just I need a real job with DJ-ing.

That blue laser's pretty cool, but way too expensive. Green's fine for me. I'm still wondering if the MC can be set to just Green mode, and if so, is it as bright as the normal green stinger? Also, on the MC can you have the Red laser moving to the music and have the green one giving you a fixed sky scan?
jamesnet

yep, you can specify the color(s), whatever, it does it all, but you have to use a dmx controller to do it all...

Don't you have to use some specific expensive DMX controller?
Designer
08-11-04, 01:17 AM
I would think that pretty much any DMX controller would do the job, at the end of the day a simple controller like the Showtec scanmaster 3 or the Chauvet DMX50 would do the job OK.
Any DMX controller will operate any DMX equipment (so you could feasibly use a stage lighting desk designed for dimmers to control a scanner) as it's all a standardized protocol, it just depends on what features you need from the controller.

How bright is too bright?? I'm just using it in a very small room which is only 20x30 feet (my bedroom for friends) and I was thinking of getting a laser from eBay. One is 20mw and the other is 60mw. Would these be way too bright and ruin the walls and people's eyes??
You would have no problem using a 4.9mw laser for that type of application.. Although the quality of the optics would also be a factor in the overall brightness
