I've stayed away from Trance for a few yrs now but still dig through Prog house and come across his work from time to time. He is one of my favorite producers out right now, for that genre. Quality work.

He should be up there with Avicii and I don't mean in skills, but more in popularity.

Beacause he doesn't produce Trance and never has, he's a progressive house producer, the tracks you have linked are very commercial Guetta style House, Arty used to create some amazing melodic stuff,

If you like his stuff now you should really check out his early work, especially when he used to go by the name Alpha9 its 1000000000000000x better than the shit he's putting out atm,

This is Trance

This is Progressive House

This is Trouse, a combination of Commercial Shit produced by old "Trance producers" combined with more Commercial Shit produced by "House Producers"

Arty falls somewhere between the last 2, he used to be purely Progressive house but has gone like everyone else in the game and is selling records to the masses, which is exactly why he doesn't get any props from Trance lovers.

Never knew he went under a different name before, not surprised though.

Too many Alpha9's... How far back are we talking? 2000ish ?

How can you hate on any producer doing this? You know its just for the money, why hate; his talents are still obvious.

Dunno Rek, i think we're straddling the whole 'purist vs selling out' argument here; maybe it's the 'talent' you speak of being used in styles that are.. Ahem... Typically not as prevalent in the 'talent' department lol

Regardless of what I think of the genre and the directions it's been going, he stands out way above most. Same with Wolfgang, he sold out as well but he another who stands out.

I fault no artist for selling out like that since ppl don't by music anymore. It's all about getting a slot on that main stage, unfortunately.

I just shits me that these artists have such unbelievable talent and its going to waste, they are capable of so much more than what they are giving,

Arty produced some beautiful uplifting & melodic progressive tracks, that take so much creativity, and now he just puts out repetitive sounding electro bassline shit, granted his tracks still have some nice breakdowns, I think this is what makes them stand out, but its still a waste of talent imo, he could still be putting out more of those amazing tracks he first started out with, and this goes for so many artists around atm,

rek i haven't forgotten that you asked me to draft up some midi notes from one of arty's tracks in that 'custom midi' thread i made  i even sent myself an email to remind myself to do it (my email inbox serves as my to do list:lol:)

EDIT: actually... that song has almost an identitcal chord progression to 'kate' now that i'm listening to it. should make it easier :P

haha. I actually forgot about it. I think I just posted that on your thread because I heard it that day. No worries.

And yes, its pretty much a remake of that kate track, so I have to give Arty credit for that melody. So damn catchy. :music:

I love pretty much all of Arty's older productions. They definitely lean more towards prog house, but a very nice melodic and happy sound overall. A few trance tracks under Alpha 9, and "Hope" under Arty.

Unfortunately he doesn't play any of that stuff live. I just through it all into the crappy trouse subgenre what he plays out now :(

To be truthful, the first song that Rek posted is actually good for what it is. I mean, it's not my cup of tee, but there is definitely talent at work there.

That track is friken awesome, The prog house track Move on is sick too.

Where do you guys stand on this stuff then?

For example :

Virtual Vault - Definition

http://youtu.be/R3FkcVUFFF4

Rafaël Frost - Red

http://youtu.be/UyuqWj4-WHs

Breakfast - Remember

http://youtu.be/Idq4MPGa76g

DJ Eco - And We Flew Away

http://youtu.be/y7z2hsLyoYQ

I've always regarded those as Trance, maybe the Breakfast track is pushing it a bit as it leans more Progressive.

Unfortunately though i don't follow Trance as much as i used to and it's a shame as it is what got me into "dance" music in the first place. I still religiously follow the ISOS compilations but they are more Progressive. As for ASOT last time i heard it, it sounded like Electro House to me

The only Trance i still listen to is the older stuff like Gareth Emery - Exposure, Madagascar, Adagio for Strings, the stuff i've posted etc.

Can't seem to find stuff that pulled me like those did nowadays.

Some good tracks there Zafire. Casey Keyworth (Breakfast) has a solid collection of tunes, similar to Eco they both have a very distinct sound that you know straight away its one of their tracks, Ive always been a big fan of them both.

Rafael Frost's early tracks are good, my fav is his remix of Dogzilla's - Without You, epic track, but like all of the others, he's been putting out the usual shit recently.

Yeah I love Breakfast and Ecos work for exactly the reason you posted. They are differant. They are original.

I find myself listening to the old trance I have on my iPod more and more these days, between that and the Trance podcasts from yourself and M!tch the inner trance beast inside may be starting to rise again!
