Master/Slave Help!!!

Hey guys,

If a lighting effect claims to be master/slave linkable does that mean that you can get away without a DMX controller and connect them directly together with an appropriate lead?

Yep, first one should be the master, the rest are slaves, you may have to set some dip switches though

It'll give you a synchroinised lightshow without the cost of buying a DMX controller. I always look for master/slave linkable lights with internal shows purely for the fact that if my DMX controller dies then I can just change a few settings and were off again.

Adding to James' post, there may also be a menu panel on the fixtures in place of dip switches, this is becoming much more common on slightly more expenive effects lighting nowadays and in-built programs and master/slave linking can normally be activated through that.
