I was just called to dj at a local bar for st patricks day and don't really know what to charge them. For typical 4 hour bar shows like this on a friday or saturday, i charge between $175 and $200. But they want me for an 8 to 10 hour show on the holiday. So, the question is: what would you charge the client?

I would just charge double what you normally charge. $500 sounds fair to me. Maybe a little bit more because its a holiday. Do you normally celebrate St. Patricks day or is it just another day to you?

Your equipment or theirs? How many people are they expecting?

I used to celebrate as of last year. But that was my last year in college. It'll be my equipment most likely. Just a pair of tops and a light or two.

I love St Pat's, I do the largest one here in Ft Wayne, it's awesome. However... it's a drunk fest. You're constantly telling people to get off your subs, constantly worrying some drunk moron will crash into your tree's and knock over your lights, constantly worrying that your satellite's down the tent will get knocked over and constantly wondering where the server is with your beer...

With that said, it's a fun break for me, but I typically do weddings. Charge a premium on your services because it's not worth it if you lowball yourself. You'll be mad at 3-4am when you're tearing down in the cold. Also, ask if they are doing a Friday and Saturday show this year because most people are, maybe you can work this into a 2 night gig rather then just 1.

Good call on the two-nighter. That would be a pretty nice payday for me, too. I'll look into that.

My estimate would be: One hour setup time, one hour teardown, plus the playing time (8-10 hours) and then take this total and multiply by $100 (Friday), $110 (Saturday), or $80 (Mon- Thurs).

My quote would range from $800 to $1200, depending on the day of the week St Pat's falls on!

Yeah Lansing as well. I was one of the competitor DJs in the CCDJO if you went to the 1st round, your name didn't sound familiar and I couldn't think of any bar without a system.

Something no one else has said, I'd bring someone along with you. 8 hours is a LONG time to be DJing alone.

I wouldnt do it for less then 600$ being that you normally charge less then 200. (I actually would also quote them at 800-1200 for 10 hours, a lot to deal with during St Pattys and thats a pretty long day). I wouldnt take any less. If they try to talk you down dont accept, that is unless you don't care but thats a long day that will be filled with stress...
