Hi all,

Am in need of purchasing a DATA projector for weddings in displaying background slideshows etc. Have got away in the past with hiring them or carry 2 panasonic 50" LCD's that I use but now there is a job coming up that they want to use a bigger canvas so looking at a projector. NOT some over the top super ANSI LUMENS duper FULL HD Cinema experience but something portable that is built to go and if it does need maintenance and bulb changes is not too much down the track. I have personally always had a good rep with SONY gear but that being said I would never buy a sony laptop since being a full time IT tech my work bench is swarmed with SONY notebooks needing repair. ON THE OTHERSIDE all my home TVS etc are all SONY and i would never use anything else. There is plenty of great stuff out there at really crazy low prices but intrested in what you guys are finding useful.

Cheers

I'd suggest BenQ's MX812ST. It is a short throw DLP projector offering 3500 lumens and a 4600:1 contrast ratio. Best of all it can fill a 5 x 7' screen from only one meter. I use mine with my 7.5' x 10' RP screen and the throw is around 60 inches.

+1 on the BenQ 812ST. I have one and it's great. If you want something a little cheaper look into the new BenQ 817ST. It's 3000 Lumens compared to the 3500 lumens on the 812ST.

I've rented that projector before and can also vouch for it. It's on my "to-buy" list.

I sell a lot of them, probably 20 - 30 a year. It's what we have in our rental dept.

Bill- Have you ever had a problem with a unit having a loud fan? We just got 4 and 1 of them has a much louder fan than the others.

If one has a loud fan it should be returned as defective.
