I've been contemplating doing a chillout/downtempo mix for a while now - something along the lines of the Mushroom Jazz series by Mark Farina - between 90-100 BPM, nice mellow stuff, some hip-hop & trip-hop flavors mixed in.

I've started browsing the chillout section on Beatport and found a few artists and labels so far but there is so much stuff out there. Any artists and/or labels you guys can suggest is greatly appreciated. here's the type of stuff I'm looking for:

What you defined as chillout there, I'd call insrumental hip hop. Some of the lads here refer to all that kind of stuff as mushroom jazz as a catch all term.

EDIT: Do your own track hunting you lazy fattie.

Nice one Drumpusher.

I'm a huge chill out fan because I feel like you can just throw genres in there and let it happen, no need to be overly rigid.

Recently I've been digging

Massive Attack - Protection (The Eno mix)
Air's new album - Le Voyage Dans La Lune (maybe not ideal for your purposes though)
JK Soul - A Love Has Died
Gotye -Somebody that I used to know (tons of good remixes) also anything off Making Mirrors album.
Nicolas Jaar - Colomb or I Got a Woman or Space is Only Noise or ... everything he does.
Matthew Dear - In The Middle (I met you there)
Lushlife - She's a Budist, I'm a cubist

stuff from American Standard (record label), Lali Puna (artist), Lou Rhodes (artist).

I like throwing in some old school stuff because it all seems to fit. Like Serge Gainsbourg, Lemon Jelly, etc...

Let me know if I am on the right track and I'll send a few more.

Awesome guys, thanks for the suggestions, digging a lot of them so far.

Yeah that's what I've been noticing. I've got such a huge collection of music spanning all sorts of genres, yet house is the only music that I've really ever tried to mix. Although a lot of the tracks aren't exactly DJ friendly, I'm either going to make some edits myself or just mix them quickly, should be fun. Thanks again guys!

Ive done edits before. Now I just get them in there, with filters, FX, ambient sections, etc because to be honest I prefer the musicality of these guys' tracks and like to let that play out fully in the mix.

Might as well turn this into a mushroom jazz esque thread :]

My video prof just introduced me to DJ Cam, Kruder and Dormeister, Funk Porcini, and DJ Vadim. He is now the coolest prof I've ever had

If you like Cam, you should get into the following albums:

DJ Krush - the whole back catalouge - best beat maker on the planet, for me. Zen and Milight are particular highlights.
U.N.K.L.E - Psyence Fiction
Muggs - Dust
Dday One - Loops Entensions Deluxe
